For most of us it's a gadget. Kinda like when I want the car salesman to go away and leave me alone when I stop to get parts:
"Hey, don't you want to get a newer truck? We've got some great new trucks, bet you've got a lot of miles on that one."
"Why would I? Solid axle, 3.4, lockers F&R, ..... , blah, blah, blah, 20 forward speeds, 4 reverse, take a look inside."

He glazes over right about then. Mission accomplished.
