We got them here, extra cab long wheel base 4X4 and diesel too, I've seen an extra cab body on a 4Runner chassis and the rear chopped/bobbed, 3 foot long tray bed, looked the goods, had an SAS with coils up front too

I have personally seen an XtraCab 4x4 Longbed, 84-88, in Englewood, CO.

His u-bolt spring plates aren't bending because they're too thin. They're bending because they're flat. You can go one of two ways:

* Use a big flat piece of square that's about 1/2" thick. That so thick it probably won't bend, but it's a royal pain to drill through.

* Use thinner stuff and bend the ends up 45 degrees just outside of the u-bolt nuts. I've got 1/4" plate for my u-bolt flips at all 4 corners, and the plates haven't bent at all on a rearend beaten hard enough to crush the tube and bend the housing 5 degrees out of true.

If you're making them youselves, the easiest thing to do is just grind a notch 3/4 of the way through the plate where you want to bend it, stick in in the vise, and beat it over with a hammer. Then just fill in the notch with a welder.

Mounting the rear 13" travel shocks vertically instead of / \ like a lot of people do was also worth the time. Rides soooo much better that way. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I got the spring plates replaced with 3/8 plate (it was easier to do that). They have a *slight* bend, but still very flat - and they are torqued to spec.
I also got the front gusseted, but it probably wasn't that necessary. It's box tube all the way across, and there is gusseting underneath as well.
It's all good though!
With my new tires on, I don't notice any hint of wobble when going over tracks even at 50mph.
Still thinking on what to do for the rear end to help when I carry a load.

That does not explain why my non-flat 1/4" U-bolt plates from All Pro (since redesigned because of it by the way) bent. No, while bending the ends of the plate helps a little (VERY little), thickening eliminates the problem.

I ended up welding another layer of 1/4" to mine for a total of 1/2" and have had no problems since - despite robust torqueing of 5/8" U-bolts as well.

FWIW, my frame is still just under 22" off the ground
And with weight on the tires, the center of my hubs are just about 16" off the ground.
So, I have a "ride height" of about 6" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Makes it a nice low SAS <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
