I remember a while back heaaring somthing about classic car insurance. Cheaper to go through a company that only insures classic cars, as opposed to all cars?
Has anybody heard of this?

A buddy of mine has his 65 Malibu Convertible insured with http://www.hagerty.com . I think they only do classic cars and boats. I wanted to do it for one of my cars and looked throught the site to check it out. They ask about your usage of the vehicle. I believe you are only supposed to drive it a certain amount of miles per year. You also might need antique/classic plates. Also the car should be basically stock. There are also other rules that are not unreasonable if it is a classic that doesn't a ton of road time and it is cheaper than regular insurance. I believe lots of regular car insurance companies are offering a from of classic car insurance as well.

Mike Thanks Mike.. Hagerty is one of the big boys in the business but there polices have limited mileage, most 3k miles a year. I'm with Grundy...unlimited mileage but type of driving is restricted similiar to Hagerty. Restrictions include no work driving, no one under 25, and you must have your own car other the then classic one. Type of driving allowed is to and from anything the has public interest or pleasure driving. Best part of classic insurance is the value you state is the value amount you receive after a claim, if the company calls it a total loss...not like conventional insurance where they will send an adjuster out and beat you down on what they're are going to pay. I pay $228 a year for $35K coverage on my Mustang

I called my pops again, same basic deal. No commuting, no one under 26 and no moving violations period for any listed driver, 5K miles annually but events / cruises / vintage drags allowed. Same no questions, here's your check insurance. He insures a '63 Galaxie and a '64 Fairlane 500, $670 annually at appraised value. He used a locally approved Ford head guy for the appraisal, which was required for the coverage.
Sheesh, when I called again he says, "What the hell, don't you spend enough money on the stuff you still haven't finished around there?" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
Wait, what? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> Burned by an old guy, dang.

Cheap premiums, massive stipulations and no name insurance carrier spells bad news to me.
You know if anything happens, they'll try to figure out a way to say you violated some part of the contract, whether you did or didn't. And with a million stipulations, chances are, they'll find something. Shopping mall is probably defined in small type as any place of business outside a residental area...for example. They'll probably have something hidden in the small type that says void if motor is running. I'm joking, but actually worse has happened.
Personally, I'd stick with a major A+ or higher rated insurance carrier that is willing to insure something specialized like that and pay the higher premiums if you have too.
Or at least check out the no name insurance company you might be looking at, such as the BBB, etc....
Just my opinion.

Are you stoned... massive stipulations keeps coverage down. Grundy Worldwide's program has insured more than 1,500,000 collector vehicles through leading A++ rated carriers. Grundy Worldwide is the fastest growing insurer of collector cars. Hagerty A rated.. These are NOT NO NAME carriers. Just cause your not familiar with classic cars and never heard of these companies does not make them bad. Insure a classic car through Allstate, Farmers, State Farm and see what happens when your car gets stolen or totaled. Kiss that full value down the crapper. Why do you think each one of these companies have websites that have sucks.com after there names...surely not from GOOD customer service. I know three classic car owners that had either there car totaled or stolen and all three received FULL value checks within 10 days. The reason for massive stipulations is to weed out the riff raff that take advantage of standard coverage carriers. Why do you think you pay so much...sure the hell isn't cause you drive a nice vehicle.. Same goes for 21st Century....ever get a quote from them? Well...if your credit is bad...don't bother. They consider your credit rating more important then your driving record when they quote out fees. They consider credit ratings a direct reflection to driver responsibility. Insure a million people with excellent credit and claims will be less.

Just my opinion. These are not "No Name" insurance companies. They are very well known in the Classic, Vintage, and Street Rod communities. They picked up where the Named companies would not. That is they insure the classics, vintage, and street rods at a very reasonable cost.
