1994 V6 4x4 California truck, 138k miles, stock everything.

I wanted to get your guys opinion on an idea I had. I was thinking about having a straight exhaust pipe made which I could just bolt in place of my catalytic converter (in between smog checks of course). It appears if I buy two flanges I could just have a straight pipe welded to each of them, unbolt the old cat converter, bolt in the new straigt through pipe and I would be all set.

Anyone think the power increase would be worth it ? Any potentional check engine light problems etc ?
O2 sensor is right before Cat in picture below (hopefully the link will work)
