Getting the Wheeling Fever
The fun continues... A couple months ago,I put a shackle lift on my 91 yj so I could run 31's. Now the once very flat back leaf springs are almost into negative arch.
I know I should just probably go buy some new springs, but money is real tight right now. Are there any boneyard springs I could swap in? I wouldn't mind if I got an inch or two of lift in the process. I don't know if it's important or relevant, but my jeep is a hardtop.
Finding YJ's in wrecking yards here is all but unheard of, so I don't think that's an option.
Thanks in advance.

find a local jeep club or one thats not tooo far away and post there ...many people that do lifts will have stocks laying around....i see them all the time for free here...or for a 6 pack o beer....you could look for some 7 pack wagga leafs...they will give you about 2-2 1/2" lift and the fronts move the axle forward 2" thats a plus...i found a set one time last year for 75$....just look around different forums ..shipping would run about 35-60$ if its across country at the most....but when down the road you want some kick arse springs i suggest(alcan) they do custom springs...pricey but i never heard of one complaint...in fact ill be giving them a call in 6 months..i think i was quoted 600 for a set(4)maybe more but i asked for a specific aplication

tough to find the springs, I had a set of saggy ones that I gave away a ways back.... You can get them re-arked if you want, but they will sag again. I'd suggest getting the springs from a doner rig and have them arked, then, ditch your shackle lift components, and go stock with coil over shocks for the little gain you need.
By using the shackles, you alter the way the springs are designed to flex, mainly on the front, and can really ruin your springs. I'm on my third set of springs and when I have the funds to replace the one's that I have, I will get rid of my extended shackles. With a real lift kit, they do look goofy and they do limit the approach angle while adding such little lift for larger tires, ... not worth it in the end.
Anyway, this will fall into a category of "save your money and do it right when you have enough to do it right."

91 Jeep Wrangler YJ, carpet, tires, trailer hitch. yea....

Dumb question. How do I tell if they're 7 pack springs?
What years came with them?
What about using XJ springs? Any of them useable? They seem to be very common in boneyards here. What years should I look for?
As for coilover shocks...How much will those set me back?

XJ springs are way too long. Coil over shocks are usually at least 40+$ per, and they really put a lot more stress on the shock mounts, bending or breaking them.

you can add a leaf (cheap), install air shocks (cheap since you need shocks anyway), helper springs, air bags etc. options are endless but i like a california lift (cheapest). makes the truck dig better on acceleration and throw your passenger back in the seat to show off your unusually fast ride...

go to the wrecking yard and buy some springs from any little truck. use your yj main leaf and mix in whatever you find cheap or free. the last springs i bought from a wrecking yard were $40. i haven't priced add-a-leaves but i bet they're close to $100.
