No, you don't have to pull the head. But you have to remove the head bolts to get the rocker assembly off. To chase the holes you have to remove the head...

Here's the thing... If you have never been in that motor before, and it runs fine and gets good MPG...why mess with that? I have an EB head and cam in mine. But only because I had a blown HG and had to take it apart anyhow. I realize that you only want to drop in a cam, but to do it right ( once again, if somebody wants to disagree) you have to take the whole top of the engine apart. If you just take out the head bolts, take out the rockers, put the new cam in, and bolt it back down...I can almost garantee that you will be facing a blown HG ( head gasket) soon. These are tough little engines, but things have to be just so, ya know?

If you decide to do this, get the FSM available at the top of the page and really dig deep into what will be required. The consider the tools needed..wrenches, socket sets (1/4, 3/8, & 1/2 " drive ) breaker bar, quality torqe wrench, scrapers, extentions, picks, brake parts cleaner, RTV, gasket kit, helicoils....you get the picture. Like I said, I'm not trying to talk you out of it. But like my pappy used to say.." do it right, do it once. Do it half-a$$...do it over and over."

We are here for ya, man....
