Hey guys, I'm stuck in Nevada and am putting in a new auto tranny in my 1990 Montero. I know that the original is an Aisin-Warner A44DL lockup with a Mitsubishi designation of KM148. I found a tranny on ebay imported from Japan that claims to fit. It says it's a SOHC Mitsubishi tranny. I don't know what this means. Any idea if will actually fit? I don't know how to link yet but the item number is 8033989916 if you want to check it out. Thanks for your help everyone. Matt

Also, A tranny from certified transmission.com seems like the best choice in terms of reliability but it'll run be $1637. The one on ebay is $800 including shipping. It's guaranteeded for 90 days if its the wrong part. Should I take the gamble and save $800? I had my '93 tranny rebuilt twice. Does the $1600 include R&R? 1600-1800 is about right for a rebuilt with torque convertor. As has been said before, for safety sake use OEM fluid...
If you plan on keeping it do the rebuilt. Once rebuilt should last 200k more. Go the cheaper route if you can stick around town/motel in case the trans is the wrong part.

$1600 is just the price of the rebuilt tranny from certified transmissions. Labor is extra. If you include shipping time, the ebay tranny will cost about $1000 less (and I keep my current tranny). I know that a rebuild is the best way to go but I really don't have the extra $1000. Thoughts? Thanks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

An A/T from the Single OverHead Cam engine could be either the lockup or the non-lockup model. Both will work, but the lockup is the best choice for the LWB.
