Hey Guys ____ WHERE is theö voltage regulatorö LOCATED on an 84 22r 4runner, I know on an 85 22re itÆs in the alternator. IÆm having symptoms of a faulty alternator. Charge light on, its running rough, and the tachometer is going crazy (up and down) wipers slowing down. I did tap on the alternator once and the symptom disappeared but came back, IÆm also thinking intermittent alternator (worn brushes) problems, had it checked out, it was good. So, just for good measure IÆm going to replace the voltage regulator for good measure and go from there. Any ideas are WELCOMED ________ THANKS in advance BAYRUNNER

Left fender next to the little black box that holds the terminal lug for your B+ wire to transition across the front to the fusebox. Follow your harness; it's about the size of a pack of cards.

FYI, Old school trick is to hold a long handle screw driver next to the back of the alternator (Mind the positive cable). The harder the mangetic pull on the screwdriver the more it's charging. So if you get into another "episode" you can check the alternator to see if it's charging 100%.

Hook up a volt meter to the battery while the engines running and monitor the voltage. If it peaks above 14.0v the regulator may be bad. If it stay below 13.5v but still fluctuates, then it's probably the brushes.
