Alright good for you. Now all you will need is blood and sweat. Just kidding. If the 4d56t has the correct oil pan (which it should if it came from a Pajero/shogun) it will slide right in. While its on the floor I recommend new timing belt and perhaps a new waterpump. If you renew the crank and cams seals now you won't be going in there for 100K. Might as well send that VISA to the Max. Does the engine have an Auto ring gear on it? or an flywheel? My Raider was an auto in the begining but the 2.6 ring gear had a spacing problem to the starter mesh (too far away I think) so I went with the standard. I hope you got a wiring harness/glow controller from the donor as well. If you did you should be good to go.

Cool and needless to say in due time you will be driving around powered by diesel! Great to see you ended up getting the 4D56T for your project, hope it goes great, and good luck. $2,000 delivered isn't that bad of a deal at all too. I agree with DarthRaider and I'd change out all the cooling system components and parts so you will be reliable for a good amount of miles to come. Plus, any diesel engine that is driven by a timing belt should have the belt changed for the reason that you may not know when it was last done. It is a very good idea. Let us know if you happen to run the engine while it's out on an engine stand or secured correctly. A test run of it running may be a good idea too.

Sweet! Good job. Look forward to joining this club myself, and it might be sooner than later... stay tuned, I MIGHT have taken a step in the right direction - update tomorrow.
In the mean time, at some point I'd like to swap ideas with you guys in terms of replacement parts, suppliers, etc...
Way to go!

The truck is geared based on foogas motor rpm ranges. A lower revving diesel needs a lower numerically diff gear ratio. You need lower gears with higher numbers. A 2.3 or a 2.5 turbo wont get going on 3.9something. My car has stock 5.29:1 gears but they are a bit low for small tires so 4.56 or 4.88 are good to about 32" tires. The Gen1 Pajero auto comes with something in that neighbourhood.

Well my 87 Raider had the 2.6 auto and has a 4.625 gear. I am still running the stock 225/75/15 rubber. Highway travel is a little tough on the fuel economy but regular driving 50mph and lower is great I think. Not sure how an auto with larger tires would pull, but I guess we are about to find out. I am thinking it will be a little slow out of the gate but when boost comes on it would be good. With mine I lifted with RPMs up there (gas tach don't work with diesel) at 70mph to check highway speeds. That was fast enough for me. As for parts I have found many parts are easily obtainable. T-belts are available from gates at almost all parts stores. Also the Beck/Arnley people have belts and OEM type seals. I am sure from my reseach that these engines are the same (2.3 & 2.5) with exception of bore. Be sure to check the dealer as some times they surprise us on cost and most times nothing is better than OEM parts. http://www.ebay.co.uk/ is also a good place to find 2.5 stuff. Just type in diesel shogun lots of good things come up.

Bob, saw you posted a blurb about timing timing timing on POCUK.
So what is your timing secret? Did you learn it yourself? Can you really mess things up playing with the pump timing?
Anyone know of a 4D56 or even 4D55 for the right price, I am in the market. I now own a '94 LWB looking for a transplant.
thx

Check out these 3 threads:
"Diesel conversion?" "Looking for info on the 2.5 Turbo Diesel" "Japanese Pajero Diesel engines now available"
A bunch of us have been piecing together some info on swaps.
There are a lot of importers that can get 4D56 sets. Jarco Inc. can get one for $2000+200 shipping.
thx Scott

I don't know what tranny the 4D56 came with but you may need to replace the fly wheel with a "flex plate" for the auto tranny.
