You need lower gears with higher numbers. A 2.3 or a 2.5 turbo wont get going on 3.9something. My car has stock 5.29:1 gears but they are a bit low for small tires so 4.56 or 4.88 are good to about 32" tires. The Gen1 Pajero auto comes with something in that neighbourhood.
