why should some guy in, say, indonesia, have to defend himself based on the actions of some guy in, say, syria?

I didn't say anything about some guy in indonesia definding himself. But why wouldn't he defend his belief system?

should you, as a chistian, have to defend yourself because of the actions of the "christian identity" movement...or militant serbs...or joseph kony and the lords resistance army...or eric rudolph...or the KKK...or even pat robertson?

Once again, I don't see it as defending myself, personally, but yes, if folks began to think that's how all Christians feel, heck yes I'd stand up and say " no, that's not what my beleifs are". Is that bad?

ou have to proactively convince the rest of the world that these people do not represent your views and that you are not a terrorist just because they are?

IF the rest of the world was beginning to beleive that, then yes I would. I'll do it now. I am not a terrorist. I do not share the beleifs of the radicals you name. If a group of radical athiests were claiming that all Christians needed to die, what would you do?

w, this whole thing is about way more than a few cartoons...)

You are absolutely correct. This is about a small group of militant people highjacking an entire religion in an effort to get their political agenda advanced. And all the rest of the followers of said religion are standing by and letting it happen. Does that not seem odd to you?
