Thanks Josh, I'll keep ya in mind, especially if I need any help with this rebuild, seeing as it is my first......got everything soakin in the carb cleaner now, that thing was pretty dirty, I found 2 leafs inside of it Oh BTW, what dealer do you usually go do down here to get your parts from? I've had pretty bad luck with Larry Miller

I got one dealer to order me a first main jet and they told me that there were no second main jets to be had. Another dealer ordered me a second main jet, telling me there were no first main jets to be had.....double checked it and it's two different parts numbers so hopefully.......Margie, if you can check these parts numbers with yours and tell me if they're right, that'd be super

First Main Jet:90999-41116

There is alot of love at Bell Road Toyota. The lead guy is awesome (if he's still there) and never had a problem getting me truck stuff not matter how long it took me to point out on his screen.

LMK if you need anything. Spray/wipe/brush works well cleaning these carbs.

I did have my dad use the solvent table at his work a few times for the really bad ones tho.

Ok, got all the jets in, but I had one quick question about jet sizing. The first main jet that was in the carb when I got it was a 114, and the dealer ordered me a 116, is this going to make much of a difference when I get everything back together, or should I go ahead and use the 114 that I originally took out? Dosen't seem like that much of a difference to me but then again, I'm new at this carb buisness.....

Also, what is a "hot idle compensator" or something like that, it's a rectangular looking thing on I think the driver side of the carb, right up towards the front....reason I ask is I don't have one....the rebuild kit came with gaskets for it but it's missing.....is this a auto tranny thing? Mines a 5 speed, I was thinking it might be something like the dashpot but I'm .....

Thanks!

The jet is a bit bigger which is fine. I doubt you'll ever notice the difference. When jetting you ususally make jumps of 5 or 10. 2 is nothing.

I haven't the foggiest on the hot compensator. There are a few peices that you will get that you don't use.

If you are talking about the long rectangle on the driver side of the carb, no that was only used in the 81' model.

Yeah, that's the one. Good to know, I thought I was missing something. What advantages would you get by going to a bigger jet size? I assume you'd have to play around with the A/F mixture. Reason I ask is I'm a little interested in playing around with the carb, seein as once I throw this one on, I'm gonna have an extra sittin around, maybe get a little more power out of the thing, I may be fishing here but I thought it might be worth a try.

When I go to install the rebuilt carb, it should be pretty much ready to go right? besides adjusting idle speed, I mean I shouldn't have to mess around with the A/F mixture right? I read a couple of places that it's a BAD idea to drill out the plug and adjust it, so I just left it in there.

Your jet part numbers are correct; also

float assembly 21209-37041
Jet S/A slow 21205-25410 this is long, with an oring seal, unlike the other 2 jets, which look more like a plug with the middle bored out.

The jets are under $10 each; the float is around $26.

Make SURE the float is set up right, or it'll drive ya bonkers.

Its a common misconception that you can adjust the A/F mixture with the screw on the carb. This is untrue due to the screw only adjusting the A/F mix at IDLE. Once you throttle past the idle circut you are back to stock. The only adjustment to the ratio is by changing the jets. Stock carbs run on the lean side for gas milage but if you start adding a cam, headwork and exhaust, that lean carb becomes too lean and causes heat problems. Funny how fuel actually cools some parts of the engine.

Yes, it is a bad idea to take out the plug. There is no reason to adjust it. It just adds one variable to something already rather complicated.

You might get a bit more umph going a little more rich. Not enough to notice tho. Go with a Weber if you want power.
