I have no idea! Found a Champion winch when I was at Costco and it caught my eye because it looks very similar the warn 8000. It was like 299 bucks, and i know that looks don't mean much, which is why i'm curious if anyone here has heard anything about them? Does anyone have one? here is the website for the winch: http://www.championpowerequipment.com/de8000lb_winch.htmwell any info would be great! thanks

While you're at it Warn M8000 specsI'd be wondering what kind of warranty/aftermarket support is available for the Champion.

Milemarker winch for about $440 shipped. but I called MM and they said they use "CHINA" made electric motor. Warn told me their entry level "tabor" winches aren't the best, and theire better stuff use German made motors. I freakin hate china. I'm going with a 9K Warn, medium duty or whatever for about $600.
Harbor frieght has a $200 chicago electric winch, probly made in china. so if you want cheap... go harbor freight. I know a guy in our TTORA club who has one, uses quite a bit.

i searched yahoo and some other forums and i havn't found any horror storys on it yet. From what i've read its a good winch, but it seems that there are two different Horse Power models, the best of which is a 3.6 HP model released in Canada, and right now i can't remember how many HP this one was that i saw today...
oh yea, It did say that it was entirely made in china though
J94_4runner, how is your friend's Harbor frieght $200 chicago electric winch holding up?

just as a comparison of this to Warn...
Motor Champion: Series Wound Motor, 3.6 HP (DC 12V) Warn: 12V 4.8 hp, 24V 2.1 hp, Series WoundTM
Gear reduction ratio Champion 210:1 Warn 216:1
Line Speed at 8000lbs. champion 5.6 ft/min Warn 8.01 ft/min
I don't know much about winches....so this may be a stupid question, but how much does line speed matter on the trail (other than waiting a min. longer?)? How many times, like a rough average per year do you use your winch for those who have them?? thanks
oh yea, and it is being sold at Costco, and they have that great return policy, so might not even have to mess with replacing anything when it breaks, just returning it

Haven't been able to confirm this yet, but Champion Power Equipment sounds like yet another Chinese owned company that uses a Western Sounding name to sell junk. There are so many nowadays, you'd be shocked who who and what you were buying if you knew.
I think I'd stay away from it. Keep you eye out in the classifieds for used Warns. I've seen brand new WARN 8000s for as low as $499.

the title of this thread has been bothering me. can someone tell me the difference between inexpensive and cheap? Inexpensive is directly related to price. Cheap could mean quality and price. erick

Not that I have a winch or anything, but I went muddin this weekend with the boys and we had to get 2 Z71s winched out by a 2 dr. Tahoe with an 8 or 9000 Warn on it. If you get one I would strongly recommend a big alternator and a second battery. The winch pulled so much juice that towards the last truck and BTW both pulls were about 75 ft., the last 20 or so ft. when he would hit the winch his lights would go off and it would make it sputter because it was using so much juice the fuel pump would cut in and out. I would've nevrr thought it would put suck a load on the chargin system oven with his girlfriend i nthere keeping it up about 2,000 rpm the whole time to keep it charging. Just a thought
