87 Runner rear bumper options? #693488 02/05/06 09:21 AM

What are some different bumper options out there? I would really like a chrome stock one but I'm sure it would be hard to find without rust. Right now my truck has some cheesy double bar one from Summit that the previous owner bought.

Can you still buy the stocker at the stealership? I wonder how much they are.

We've got a smittybilt double tube sitting on one in the junkyard here, but I think you'd choke on the shipping, unless it went down via Lynden Freight into your area.

I would look on Ebay as well. There were a couple of different people selling stock bumpers, Toy dealerships that also sell on Ebay. I just bought a new bumper for my 94 pickup with all the mounting hardware for under 200.00. The seller was airporttoyotaparts.

Where are you located? I would be interested soon depending on the total price shipped. Could you email me some pics to mikekniewel@yahoo.com

No rush. I'm not really sure what brackets I will need, I don't know which are still on there. If you have any of that too I would prolly want to throw it in.

Heres the one I have right now

I have the stock chrome bumper on my 88 4Runner. It's the biggest piece of junk Toyota ever produced. Shiney yes, strong, HA! It should only be used to rest a can of soda on, anything else will bend it.
I bent it standing on it to load a kevlar kayak that weighs under 30 lbs. I'm only a buck eighty so these things are WEAK as hell. I think if you backed into something it would probobly fold in half then fall off.
I'm pulling it off and tossing it as soon as I can find somene local to weld up a real bumper for me.
Oh yeah, after I stood on it the holes don't line up to lower the spare tire. Trust me you don't want one. Geo Metro bumpers are tougher.

I guess my main question is why would somebody would want one? I would give you two of them if you came to my house. Well, okay, one, since the other is on my truck for now. If you find a nice aftermarket one let me know.

Thats the thing, I have not seen any nice aftermarket examples yet. I don't like the one on the truck now, its not my style. I want something simple. If anyone knows of any nice aftermarket ones, post them up! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
