Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello all,
Has anyone changed any of their bulbs to led bulbs ? I like the looks of these bulbs but not sure how they would look as far as brake lights and turn signals go. I went to a site that recommended using the same color led as the lens. Here is the site http://www.superbrightleds.com/carbulb-notes.htm
I thought using a clear led would be better than red on red ?? Anyone have any info on this or pictures ? Tia
Chris

I tried changing the rear running and brake lights to red LED..

I installed the LED bulb on one side only so I could compare brightness. The running lights were about the same brightness, but the brake lights were definitely dimmer..

So I took it out..no way am I going to run with dimmer brake lights..

The Toyota tail light reflector design makes good use of the light given off to the side of a standard bulb, but the LED bulb (even one with additional LEDS mounted in a circle pointing to the sides) doesn't work well with the reflector.

I installed some LED bulbs that supposedly works better and technically they do in regards to heat/longevity/etc, but I opted to go to colored bulbs from Japan (bluebirds). I have the LED bulbs if your interested in trying them out. They're just sitting in my glove box!! lol

Chris,
If you really want OEM or better brightness from a set of LEDs, it's gonna cost you. I tried the Ebay ones for awhile but wasn't impressed due to the lack of side lighting from the bulbs and the fact you should install a load resistor to compensate for the lack of voltage drop of the LED fixture. There is one company that makes a commercial quality bulb with side LEDs but they are spendy. Check em out... LEDtronics

One thing to note on the resistors...they get extremely HOT during operation so consider that during placement.
