Found the front windshield in my '95 T100 cracked this morning, and have been considering replacing it myself with a used one. Yay or nay? Anyone tried it before on the T100? Does this procedure require any special tools - other than, say, an axe ?

x2...
Not hard, but it can be quite cumbersome... Just make sure to get beer before you start (to bribe a 2nd set of hands into helping).

you need a special tool to cut the glue around the windshield to get it out, you can probably get it at any auto parts store. and you'll need a new package of the glue, but you can probably get that at a glass supply store.

Thank you for the replies and advice. I received quotes for both used glass and new glass + labor, and the pricing is so close that I may have a pro do it.
Thanks again!

I work for the Co. who supplies over 90% of the adhesive used to install automotive glass worldwide. Believe it or not this is a critical issue - the windshield is in fact a structural member and the adhesive is carefully formulated to adhere to the specific combination of paint / clearcoat / glass on every specific vehcile. Replacement glass is sold as a kit with the windshield plus correct adhesive. You can DIY but make certain you buy the specified kit including the adhesive from a reputable source.

Thanks for the info. The adhesive and window moulding costs/availability were the two things that seriously threaten to push this project overboard. Getting the glass is easy, but used glass vs. new glass costs were about the same, and quoted labor, even at $120 for at home service, is looking somewhat worth while. And, I just don't know if one person can do this alone as I don't have anyone to help . I was hoping to save some money as I don't think my insurance company is going to cover this

Had my windshield replaced at the stealer today along with the relay rod recall.I have 0 deductable on glass and I have been unhappy in the past with aftermarket glass. So I was happy to get oem glass (PPG).Much better than that Safelite crap.Sorry if I offend anyone in the glass business ,just my humble opinion.

Safelite that bad? They quoted me the best price at about $250 (parts and labor). How much was the dealership?

Safelite SUCKS. 18 months on a car of mine and it can't be driven in the sun because of too many pock marks from road crap. It took impact with a road sign to make a mark on the factory glass. Also the Safelite glass does not have a UV layer and the car gets much hotter in the summer, even with a full A/C charge.
I am going to go for a dealer replacement and send my old insurance company a bill.
In re installation, have you ever been annoyed by a leaky windshield? I wouldn't want to go through this.
