I know I've seen a few posts before on the subject, but I cant seem to find them when searching.
I just want to test my cold start injector to help diagnose my cold strating situation.
The FSM calls for a specialty tool 09843-30011 (what ever that is theres no discription).
Thanks for the help

ok I've been searching for a bit longer and I haven't found anything on testing the cold start injector.
I doubt however that it even is the CSI because after cranking over and over for ever it finally begins to fire a bit and when it does it smells like it's been flooded.
Also on 4crawlers advice I tried the fuel pump jumper setup to see if that was it just to rule it out. No changes.
SO I dont think Fuel is the issue. Almost seems like it's not throwing a spark after a night of Freezing temps.
I did read a few posts about the coolant temp sensor giving false readings at lower tempratures.
I'd like to diagnose the problem before I start replacing things.

Anyone have sugestions.
Thanks
Jed

I think that testing is covered in the FSM.

sorry I should have mentiond that I don't have a FSM for my year 88 22re. It is a 1992 but I would asume that the 22re specs are close to the same if not the same. In the 92 FSM it reads that the CSI should be between 2-4 ohm. Does this sound correct for older 22re's?
thanks

disconnect is and plug the intake. then have some one start it and aim the injector in a container watch for a good spray pattern. after a couple bursts of fuel it should not leak any fuel

2-4 ohms is even what's shown for my 3vze <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

On a side note, I've heard that cold start injector SWITCHES are kept in stock at most toyota dealers because they go bad so often. This was pertaining to my V6 though, so YMMV

On my 86 4Runner, the CSI timmed switch was not working but the injector was fine.
What I did was, wire my CSI to a momentary toggle switch, bypassing the CSI timmed switch.<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
I hit the switch for a second or two when the motor is cold.
It's been this way for over 6 years.

OH, and the specialty tool 09843-30011 is just a CSI conector with two wires, one to ground and the other to 12v. listen for the click.

ok Update
I checked the Temp sensor, Start Switch, and the CSI.
I could'nt get much of a reading from the CSI so I thought I was testing it incorrectly. I moved on to the Temp switch which was almost dead-on according to the temprature chart in the FSM (something like 2.7).
I then check the Start switch and same thing I cant get much of a reading. It's supposed to be in the 30's + depending on temp. an how you test. However, I could only seem to get a reading in the .0XX range, nothing over 1 ohm and the same for the CSI nothing over 1 ohm.
(I thought if a sensor or csi went bad they might read higher than normal, too many ohms.<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> am I wrong?)
anyway
So based on these tests would you conclude that both the CSI and the Start switch are in need of replacing?
Thanks again
Jed

EDIT: HOLY COW both of thoes look terribly expensive <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
