i just bought a 84 cj-7 that has not had a spring over conversion on it. if i was to do that what else should i do (ie. drive shaft, lowering the transfer case or will it be ok) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

well new spring plates,shock mounts,shocks,improvised steering(drop ptman arm) or high steer(depends on what axle you are running),u bolts,and i suggest a steering box stabilizer....many things ... do your homework...its not an easy deal...make sure you know how to weld or have someone that does .....if ya burn through your axle housing your gonna be a sad puppy!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

need to have them made..double carden/with slip....you might be good if you have a d300 .... a carden might not be nessesary...you will know when you get it set up ...bad thing about lifts like that is the drivshaft is the last thing to figure in ..... its part of geometry... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

TX4wl covered most of the issues. It depends on your fab skills and creativity as to how easy or hard it is. A cj7 is easiest SWB Jeep to convert. I was able to use the same spring plates and U bolts. A drop pitman arm took care of the steering. The front drive shaft should be fine as it is. the best source for a rear drive shaft is a full time 4wd Cherokee. Their front shaft is double cardan and can be shortened to whatever length you need for around 50 bucks. You just need to buy a yoke for your T-case. You can do a t-case drop and skip the double cardan but whats the point? You would still need another drive shaft, the stock rear is simply too short even with the drop. you would still have vibrations, you would loose a lot of ground clearance which is why you are interested it the conversion in the first place I hope. I speak from experience. There are lots of options on shocks and shock mounts You will have to be creative to achive maximum travel. It doesn't have to be hard or expensive. You'll need longer brake lines for the front. You may also decide you need an anti spring wrap ladder bar though I haven't needed one. My conversion cost me around $400 doing all the fab and welding myself. I got a good rear driveshaft for free to shorten and a good deal on a set of 9000 series rancho adjustable shocks. Do like TX said and read as much as you can find on the subject before you decide. I would be happy to try to answer questions about exactly how and what I've done to mine. If you can do most of the work yourself or can afford to pay someone else it's well worth the cost and effort IMO. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

About the same I'd say, it is after all basicly the same suspension. I believe it rides better now than when I bought it because the springs have flattened out some and softened up so to speak, I also have better shocks. I recently sold a Bone stock 91 YJ and it didn't ride any better than my CJ. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
