Getting the Wheeling Fever
If you really wanna go bright, another option is e-code headlites like these http://www.talbotco.com/e-code_lamps.htm. But definitely upgrade yer harness for this. 4Crawlers kit looks VERY NICE. (Just like all his other stuff!) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Legality IS an issue w/these, so if you drive in nite traffic much this may not be a good option. But if yer mostly on the trail, you have to go HID to get any brighter!

(Now to get off topic) For HID, get a cup of coffee and start reading at http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/ an education awaits...

I've had the Silverstars on our tow rig, with an upgraded wiring harness, for a year or so without issues. As with any bulb, it's important not to touch the bulb itself during installation.

Mark

Let me underscore how important this is...if you touch the bulb, it can shorten the life by as much as 80%. Best thing is to have a spray bottle of de-natured alchohol handy, with a soft cloth. Spray it, wipe it, whether you touched it or not..

Get Roger's harness, and the Hella VP's. You won't be disappointed. I've found that the stock high beams on the VP's combined with the improved performance of Roger's wiring harness yield about twice the light of stock seal beams. Plus if you still decide you really want those 100w high beams the harness can more than handle it.

Cheers,
Indy

Yep, that and making sure the lamp has full voltage across it. Halogen lamps need to run at full power for the longest life. With as little as a 10% voltage drop, the bulb lifetime falls off. This type of lamp relies on a reaction of the hot halogen gas redepositing the tungsten boiling off the filament back onto the filament. This reaction is temperature sensitive and at reduced voltage the temperature falls and the reaction stops. When this happens, the filament thins with use and you also get the dark metal deposits on the inside of the quartz envelope, further reducing the light output.

Could you be a little more vague? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

There are several light options meantioned in this thread; which ones are you referring to?

I've been running Silverstars on both my 96 and my DD 85. Over 2 years on the 96 (replaced from PIAA's)and just over 1 year on my 85. Absolutely love them. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> Waiting for my (blacked out) lights to go out on the trail rig and will be putting them in there too. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Only good things to say about them....was just VERY careful during installation. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

There are some really good bulbs out there. åhe us market silverStars are way over priced and dont seem to last.

I've been using these's for about 6 years, they last along time and give lots of light.
