I used to use 10w30 for my 2.4 22RE, but now I have the 2.7L 4cyl.
Would you still use 10w30? And if I have different brand names of regular motor oil for 10w30, can I mix them? Thanks guys.

I think 10w30 is what I run in my 2.7; depending on the weather in your area, you may need to run a thinner oil in the winter, but if your area doesn;t get too cold, 10w30 is fine.
As for mixing different oils, I've always been told that the biggest no-no is mixing detergent and non-detergent oils. If the oils you want to mix share the same properties -- and the same additives -- then mixing shouldn't be a big deal.
Oh, and no mixing mineral (dino) oils with synthetics -- that is a definite no-no.

Toyota Canada recommends 5w30 year round here in the Canadian Climate .... I'd say check your owners manual .

when in doubt.. 10W-30. it's a one size fits all type oil. I live in a very hot climate (FL) and I just ru n 10W-30 Synthetic Mobil 1. I used to run 15W-50 Mobil 1, but went back to the thinner stuff. I can't tell the difference with either in my 3.0... so 10W-30 is plenty. Biggest thing you can do for your engine is : A- DO NOT RUN FRAM OIL FILTERS!!!! B- Run a synthetic motor oil (not castrol it's fake synthetic). A synthetic will allow the oil to flow in cold temps and when it's really hot it doesn't cook off. bang for the buck... Mobil 1 at Wal-mart. 5qts for $20.

i think the newer engines recommend 5w30 for all-around usage. the 2.7 doesn't have as sloppy tolerances as the old 22R, so the thicker stuff might not have any benefits.

One thing I've been told by my neighbor whos a big hot rod guy, is NEVER mix different oils of different brands......different ingrediants that they all use makes it hard to find 2 that won't mix badly with eachother.....unless you're into experementing with things that might mess up your motor, then ya can post up later!!
I've always run FRAM filters, and like we've talked about before, as long as you check the anti-drainback valve then you're good to go. In the 3 cars I've owned, always changed the oil every 3K and the filter was always full of oil when I removed it. Seem to work for me....no oil-related engine problems yet......

how many miles do you have on your engine now will?
ive been running that dino mobil for a while. it used to be called drive clean blend but then they switched it to clean 5,000 or something.
i know they say not to mix oils but how much of an adverse effect can you have from mixing them? i dont think it could be anything too catastrophic.

Mix oils to you hearts content. They are absolutely required to be compatable, and are.
Mixing an old SC oil with a newer SJ oil gives you the overall properties of the SD. Mixing a 10w-30 with a 20w-50 does indeed give you roughly a 15w-40. Mix synthetics with regular oils if you wish. Then you can brag about running a synthetic blend.
The only oil mix I wouldn't do is running a non-detergent oil. It does promote sludging and certainly isn't good in a modern engine. Modern being anything made after the early 60's in this case.
