5W-30 is recommended and since its thinner than 10W-30 the engine will turn easier resulting in more power.

Mix oils to you hearts content. They are absolutely required to be compatable, and are.

Mixing an old SC oil with a newer SJ oil gives you the overall properties of the SD. Mixing a 10w-30 with a 20w-50 does indeed give you roughly a 15w-40. Mix synthetics with regular oils if you wish. Then you can brag about running a synthetic blend.

The only oil mix I wouldn't do is running a non-detergent oil. It does promote sludging and certainly isn't good in a modern engine. Modern being anything made after the early 60's in this case.

I compeletely agree with everything foxtrapper said. Anyone who says you can not mix brands or dino/syn is seriously misinformed.

B- Run a synthetic motor oil (not castrol it's fake synthetic).

Also, J94, what exactly is *fake synthetic*???

And 5W30 is specified on newer engines because it provides more power and better mileage than thicker oils. That is also why some cars spec 0W20 nowadays.

I've always run FRAM filters, and like we've talked about before, as long as you check the anti-drainback valve then you're good to go. In the 3 cars I've owned, always changed the oil every 3K and the filter was always full of oil when I removed it. Seem to work for me....no oil-related engine problems yet......

I've also never had a problem with fram they seem to filter well and I've yet to have one that I pulled off that wasn't full of oil.

Toyota Canada recommends 5w30 year round here in the Canadian Climate.

I think 10w30 is what I run in my 2.7;

when in doubt.. 10W-30. it's a one size fits all type oil.

i think the newer engines recommend 5w30 for all-around usage.

Just for kicks, I actually called two different Toyota Stealerships. And just as I suspected, one recommended only 10w30, the other only 5w30. Interesting. I'll probably change it out with the remaining 10w30 I have from the pickup. I have 5 quarts left, no need to waste it all. Thanks for all your input!
