the aftermarket fuel filter companies say every 10K/1yr. the manufactures usually say 3yrs 30K. what intervals should we be chaning our FF's at?

The parts manager at our local dealer says don't change it unless the vehicle exhibits problems that likely relate to fuel starvation. He does not even stock them. I had to order one in.

I don't know about that. My buddy had this old CRX that ran strong as hell and we drove it to the home depot, came out and it wouldn't start. We had it towed home... FUEL FILTER! Just like that. I had to order our Toyota fuel filters too for our old '00 runner and now our '90T supra. I still have the Autozone filter on from 3yrs ago when I bought the truck and did all the initial maintance.

Asked my neighbor who is the foreman at a Toyota dealership and he said "probably never" I would almost guarantee that you will strip one of the fittings if you go to change it. They were over-torqued at the factory on one side or the other and distorted the threads and they will not come loose even with a flare wrench.

If you run out of gas, you might have just sucked the crud in the bottom of the tank into the filter and clogged it some, or if you roll around extremely topsy turvey rock crawling, sloshing gas sludge all over the tank, same thing maybe.
I used to keep an extra one in my GMC in case the installed one went bad, that was easier than changing it out unnessearily (sp?). Maybe I should do the same with the toyota I have now.

I change mine twice a year, given our temperature extremes, and also the fact that some b$)(*#)$*h threw some dirt in my gas tank, thinking I was trying to steal her B/F. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

I had that thing sloshed with SC clay for about 2 years, before I finally was able to flush the tank.

We just went thru an 80 dg temp swing in about 4 days; that stuff causes condensation whether you garage your rig or not.

KROIL those fittings!!

I'll wait till it needs it, or untill I have the top of the motor off, which hopefully will be never again. It's hard to get to, unless you have a 3" BL. Either way, you gotta go thru the wheel well...

guess I'll go a bit longer on the autozone filter and then put a "toyota" filter in it. I'll do 4yr intervals from there on.

Not on a V-6, it is on the frame rail by the tranny x-member.
