I added an external (just forward of the tank) aftermarket electric fuel pump to my '88 about a year and a half ago. Was about $70 or so from Pep Boys. I still have the mechanical pump as well (left in for simplicity). The main reason I added the electric pump was to address vapor-lock at high altitude. Worked like a charm...haven't been vapor-locked since.

I lost the pictures I had of my setup. E8374 Master fuel pump 90 PSI, and get the pump holder off of a Nissan / datsun Z car from the junkyard.
