thanks for all the info. going to take fan and rad off tomorrow and probly do waterpump and timing belt too...thanks alot

There are benefits though, crawling at very slow speeds means there is not a lot of airflow coming at the radiator, so an electric fan can be a big help in pulling more fresh air over those fins. It can also be controlled by something other than engine RPM, so you can flip it on full any time extra cooling is needed.
