From my understanding Sirs, running an electric fan will load the engine via the alternator but not nearly as much as the engine driven fan. Even @ high amperage. Muscle car owners have been installing electric fans and water pumps to reduce HP loss for quite some time with decent results. Plus they can switch them off if someone wants to step up at a stoplight. But I would suggest setting your fan up for infinite speed if that is something you want to pursue. That way the sensor will modulate the fan motor to whatever speed that is needed.
