Body Damage is Cool
Well , I got the front part of the body completely off , started transfering some of the brackets and stuff over to the good one , after I painted it of course.Heres a pic of it sitting off the truck , freshly painted.

[Linked Image]

I didn't get any pics of what I did with the brackets yet , but I did run into an interesting quandry. The 4 and the 6 have different overflow jugs for the rad.Now , if I put the bracket on from the 6 , the other bracket to put the A/C drier(I think) won't fit.I can get around that by putting the 4 bracket and jug in , but if you look at the following pics , the tops are a little different. The 4 has one hose going off of it , where the 6 had 2 , or was supposed to have 2.When I took it off my truck , the 6 jug only had one hose going to the radiator , the other spout you can see in the picture had nothing going to it , and I can't find a hose anywhere that would hook up to it.So , should there only be one hose and the other spout is a vent?I am just wondering if it matters what overflow jug I use on the truck. The body is identical , its just each truck has different brackets for stuff like the jug , power steering stuff , and wire looms. No big deal to change them all , I am going one at a time , and marking them and taking pics so I know what goes back where. The one I forgot to do was off the battery , there is the large 2 guage cable with an eye and a smaller , maybe 6 guage cable with an eye.I know one went to the bracket off the timing cover , which I don't have on the 3.4 , but thats easy to put almost anywhere.I am guessing the other end can be grounded almost anywhere to the block also.Anyway , here are the pics of the 2 overflow jugs.

This is the V6 jug with the 2 spouts on top , although my truck only had one hose going to the rad.The next one is the 4 cylinder jug , and it only has one hose on it also.

I'm pretty sure that second spout is an overflow. So if yo fill your radiator all the way up, and the jug all the way up, then when the coolant heats up it doesn't cause excess pressure, it just pushes out through that spout. So there either won't be a hose connected to it or it will just route it to the bottom of the vehicle if there was one.

Second spout is for the overflow's overflow. Some cars have little hoses running down the frame closer to the ground.

Ok , good , I am not missing anything then.So I should be able to use the overflow jug from the 89 , leaving me room to put the bracket on for the A/C piece.I'll try and get some more pics tomorow of the brackets and stuff I moved over so far.

Heres what else I have gotten done so far.The front was painted from the last post , and then I started swapping stuff over to the wheel wells , and put the A/C rad on , and a few other odds and ends.

A few thins to move over yet , and I still have to get the body off the frame I will be using.Only 5 bolts holding it on still , but I am not crazy enough to run an extension cord and drill out in the rain So , justhave to wait for the rain to pass again.

Got a little more accomplished out there today. All body mounts are now off , all the doors and windows are off , except one , it broke , just a tad too much pressure on it.Took the steering wheel off engine and body.Heres a few pics of the carcass , mind you the engine and tranny are still there for now , no where to put it just yet. Also are a couple pics of the body of the 89 , to show where I had patched some of it up I took some out to show the holes on each side of the wheel well on the driver side. The wheel well is toast too but I left it all covered.

Hey Barak,

You receive those parts for your transfer case that I sent you yet? Just wanted to check in with you. Looks like you've got a big project on your hands there, good luck with it.

Thanks,

Kevin

The parts didn't show up yet , probably tomorow.Waiting on a few things coming via mail , but its usualy slow to come in that way

Yup , this is a big project , but will be well worth it when its done.Everything but the frame and the body is being replaced Just like having a new truck , but you couldn't get the truck I will have , with everything in it , for what I will have put into it money wise. Just a bunch of time and hard work , but its all home built , not bought

Well , not a lot accomplishedon Friday , but my transmission did show up The rest of the day I was scratchingmy head trying to come up with an idea for lifting the bodies.I still had it in my head to make my engine hoist work , so I got out the tape measure , figured out how high I needed it to start and how high it has to lift in total.I then measured how high the hoist goes at full extension of the hydraulics. It was still a foot too short

Anyway , I sat there looking at it for a few mninutes , then had an idea of moving the hydraulic ram up about a foot when its all the way in , making it a almost 2 feet extension , plus the foot extra. So I got out the welder and put 2 brackets a foot higher , and also the ram still sits in between them so I can switch back to the other brackets easily for removing engines I haven't had a chance to use it yet , hopefully today.I was swinging off the end of it , so its strong , but of course the body ways about tweice what I do.So , the plan for today is to get the body lifted off , and cut her up into pieces I can throw in my van and take to the metal recycler.Who knows I might get 20 bucks out of it

Its starting to cloud over pretty good , so just have to wait and see if the weather cooperates for me.The only thing I think thats is still on the body to come off before I lift it is the emergency brake , as there is the mount in the cab , then 2 on the frame for it.Easy enough to take off though from the cab. So , next pics , maybe later today should be just the frame sitting there with the engine , tranny and transfer case.
