Long time no talk guys. It's great to be back.
1990 With the 22RE Pick up standard bed.
Need some help with the emergency break cable. Broke just behind the Handle. I have no idea how to do this. Could figure it out but I am pretty sure some has had this and knows some secrets.
Thanks.
1990 Toyota 4x4 22 RE. My life!!!! My project continues! Always. I'm convinced it is an addiction. Still Running great after a year.

You can get the cable from the dealer, for sure, and maybe from NAPA. I think you want to tell them you want the "front cable, as there's a separate cable that goes from the crank back to the rear axle. Or you could just take it off and take it with you.

It is a royal pain in the arse...but not hard to do. It is hard to get the handle off to get the cable end out of it. I made a notch in mine with a dremel so I would not have to take the whole thing apart.
New cable from dealer is about $150.....yes you heard me right! At least for a 4runner....

While we're on the subject (we are on the subject, right? ) does anyone know how long the rear cables are for the various trucks? I know all the 84/85 - 88/89 pickup/4Runner ones are the same length, but are the post 90's, or the Tundra/T-100/Taco ones longer?
I'm hoping my 65" Diamond axles show up soon, and my current cable is already too tight, after moving the rear axle back a few years ago. I need a longer cable, or some way to extend my current one 4" or so on each side. Any ideas?

It isn't hard to replace, just a PITA since you have to intsall from within the cab and snake it out through the fire wall down to where it connects to the rear section on the P-side of the truck. IIRC, there is only about 4-5 bolts to remove, 1-2 at the handle and 2-3 at the floor. It is a dealer item only, and I paid about $85 for mine from the local dealer. I can't remember if that was with or w/o the 25% discount.
OOP'S I bought it at Magnussen's Toyota in Auburn, they have a 25% discount sale on Wednesdays between 5-6 pm, either walk in phone in.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed
