Is there anyone from the Dallas area on here that has an older Toyota 4x4 pickup???
I had found a great site that was local to the DFW but my goals and level of commitment were not up to par with their standards so my ID was deleted..
Anyway, just looking to make some friends that I can learn from.. A mentor(s) if you will that can show me the ropes.

Thanks,

What site are you talking about? I live on the other side of Ft.Worth, not to far. Lots of knowledgeable 'mentors' here; ask away. Dont forget the search button is a 'mentor' too!

Sounds like that web site should be deleted, Pirates Board does not even ban you for asking newbie questions, flame you, yes, ban you no!!!!

This is a good site for the technicality impaired, so ask away. As stated the search button works well also.

Javo, that was intresting chat yesterday. I'm glad you didn't back down. I thought that was BS and langauge was out of line for a board Mod. Seems they took the whole thread out. I couldn't find it today.
I didn't think you did anything wrong. Just they seem to want to push you into something your not ready to commit too.
The Name. I rather let Javo tell you who or what the name is.

I dont know if I should name them publicly.. I dont want to send any potential "members" their way..PM me and I will tell you..
They expect (and I quote) commitment from their members.. I questioned that and asked what that entails. I made it known that attending regular meetings is something I have neither the time or desire to do.. I didnt say I wouldnt be at any meetings just that I wouldnt be at most.. I also said that I dont have the desire to wheel to the degree they do right now.. Anything I do will be considered extremely timid.
I offered to pay the dues for the club and it's parent club and just asked to be a silent member. Long story short, they declined and the user ID was deleted. I will defend them to a certain degree here. I did say in one of my messages if the board of directors declined my membership, and they didnt want long term registered guests they should delete my ID. They replied back and said that my goals and the goals of the club are different and my ID would be deleted. When I replied back and asked if it was absolutely necessary that they delete my ID I got no response.
Then a lengthy discussion started on the board that talked about possible by-law changes that will basically remove anyone like myself that's not completely on board with what they are doing.. You are either in or out, no shades of grey. People started bringing up my case and they defended their stance and I felt compelled to reregister another ID and defend myself. I explained that I enjoyed the site that I met some great guys that were extremely helpful and knowledgable. That I am just not ready for wheeling to the degree they do. I also said that the logic they use (in or out) is Nazi like. That didn't go over very well.
Then the VP asked me twice what I expect out of a club.. I answered twice, that I expect to make friends and gain knowledge.. That was the wrong anser. So he blasted me.
So when I pointed out that when you ask someones opinion and they respond there is no wrong anser. I explained that right there is exactly what is wrong with this "club" experience.. And I told them to "Enjoy their fabulous club"
The next post was from one of the BOD's that just said F U (spelled out)
I just said thank you for further proving my point.
That's pretty much where it ended. They had enough and they griped a little more and they banned that ID and my IP Address.. So being the computer geek I am I used one of the thousands of available anonymous proxy servers, registered another ID and just said Thank you to all the members that answered my noob questions I had.. I said thank you to 2 members specifically.. And I said Good luck to the BOD and said I hope you find exactly what you are looking for...

I'm not one to stir crap on the internet.. I am extremely non-confrontational and I have never been a problem on a web site before. Just something about that really rubbed me the wrong way the more I thought about it.. It's not like I called their moms names or anything, I just questioned their motives and the recruitment process and that did not fly. In hind site, after the first ID was deleted I should have left it alone, but other people were e-mailing me complaining about it too and didnt want to voice their opinions..

Thats the full story for the most part, if you want to know what site PM me. There are some really great guys over there, it's just the decision makers that need to take Logic 101. They could further their cause taking money from people like me and letting me grow and learn the sport they know and love. Instead they turn it away. Right or wrong it's their decision though..

I'm definatly looking for some people in the DFW area to hang with (when I can) that I can learn from..

Thanks

Did a little searching:
Does the opening page say "xxx is a family-oriented 4x4 club..." and "Visitors are always welcome. Come and share the fun!"

If so, it seems contradictory to what you described above and you will be better off with a different club.
If not, ignore my comment as it doesn't apply (except for the "you will be better off with a different club" part).

Need a Spot
Jason,

I will probably regret even addressing this, but I will because people must understand there are always two sides to every story, and rarely are things really as one-sided as they are initially presented.

Let me first say that I am sorry you are bitter about this.

I do not intend to go tit-for-tat with you, because you are by your own admission a ôcomputer geekö and will certainly spend more time telling your side than I can telling ours.

TTR is not mine, nor is it a toy. It is a club, with a Board elected by its members. Our forum is not what TTR is about. We are not a web-based club or a forumà we are a group of people.

As far as excluding people that don't have the same mindset as our club, I don't understand what you mean. Generally, a club is a group of like-minded people.

We fully understand we were turning down your money.

As far as your future wheeling, I hope you do choose to progress and grow within this sport/hobby. In the PM you sent it you made it pretty clear that you had no intention of ever participating at all.

You wrote "I really have no desire and no interest to wheel to the extent you guys do". No problem there, lots of guys come out and camp, socialize, ride, spot, photograph, wrench, cook... whatever, but they don't wheel much at all.

You then wrote: "I really have no desire to wheel at all, anything I do will be extremely timid. This is my primary daily driver and wheeling isn't a Passion I want to pursue".

That was a sign that we definitely weren't on the same page. Because of that, primarily, along with your expressed desire to pay dues only for discounts coupled with your understandable inability to participate in person, we (The Board of Directors) agreed with your assessment and deleted your guest ID per your request.

I guess I don't know what to make of all that transpired over the weekend, but argument that erupted after you re-signed up and called everyone names (including Nazis, which was very offensive) did nothing to further your cause or help make you appear as a helpless victim.

You told me that you would tell "everyone you know", so do what you think you must. I will offer the other side of the story that needs to be told.

Again, I am sorry you are bitter about this. At the time the decision was made, The BOD only had your PM to read & discuss. It was discussed thoroughly before we decided to abide by your request and delete your ID.

I know this saga wonÆt end with this post, but I wonÆt sully this board with drama. I just hope the readers remember that there are always two sides to everything, and seldom are things as simple a they may seem at first glance.

TTR has always been and will always be about friendship and wheeling. We welcome newcomers to discover us and visit with us on the web, but as of now we have no desire to sell memberships simply to obtain discounts for goods & services or to run a large internet forum; therefore membership in our club and participation on our forum remain invitation only.

I am glad you found this forum- in my opinion it will suit your needs better than a club. Good Luck.

Chris,

I've cooled down quite a bit since last week..
First, I'm sorry I stirred the pot so much.. I just didnt agree with the decision and neither do several of the club members as they e-mailed me directly and told me so.. I just chose to be vocal which is something that is extremely rare for me.. For that, I apologize..
Second, I never called anyone a name.. I did say that the thought process (youre either this way or you are out) was Nazi like. I didnt call anyone a name.. Nor did I call any one single individual out.. I certainly didnt say F.U like one of the board members did to me.

Anyway, I should have been more clear in my initial messages to you.. I am not wise in the world of Toyotas (or any other for that matter) when I pictured wheeling I picture climbing those giant rocks.. I'm certainly not ready for that.. My truck is FAR from ready for that. That is what I can not picture myself doing.. Maybe a year or two down the road, but definately not now.. Like I said anything I would do now would be extrememly timid.. I'm fine with climbing hills and going through some sand or mud, but nothing too serious..

After a week of chilling out I'm cool. I have no problems.. I was mostly upset because I met some really cool guys on there that I could learn a great deal from.. And I no longer have the outlet to ask them my stupid questions..
As far as me being a computer geek. Yah, it's true. But no worries, I'm done with it. I wont make another ID over there and stir up anything again (I promise)

take care,
Jason
