OK, I thinked I fixed part of my problem. I was driving down the road and she died. I went to restart and couldnt hear the electric pump. Yep, the new pump was toast. I switched out for same and reinstalled. I can now hit 75. So, i guess the last pump was defective.

Still need to check valves again i think. She makes a terrible noises when I try to mantain speed. You would swear a rod is broke or nasty exhaust leak. Oddity is that the noise isnt there when I accelerate or let off gas. It only does it when I try to maintain speed. If I idle and punch it then you hear the knocking around 2000 rpm not past it or below it. Sound like valves ??????

Oh, I did order a Carter from Summit. Just waiting on it to arrive. Does the Carter need to be by the tank or can it go anywhere?

I think you need to find another mechanic if that's what he said and the price he quoted. You can't even remove an engine for $300, much less rebuild a short block. If the engine was running at all (without knocking, smoking or overheating), you don't need a short block rebuild..... period. His comments should have been directed to the other issues.

I'm immediately suspicious. Why the short block? What does that have to do with your symptoms? And he can't rebuild it for $300. Run away.

My apoligies, $300 to tear down and determine if it needs rebuilt. $2800 to rebuild.

Was copying and pasting on an email to my wife.
