I use my '95 T100 ExCab 2WD as a "suburban" truck. Light duty, commuting, shuttling kids, etc.
It had 107K miles on it when I bought it in '99. It has been essentially trouble-free for the 50K miles I have driven it. But, the rear bench area is becoming a bit cramped.
Are the early Tundras as reliable as a T100? What is the experienced gas mileage for the Tundra V8 and V6? Did they make an ExCab V6 Tundra? Does the early Tundra rear bench seat provide more room than a T100's?
Thanks for any experiences. Mike

Your looking at the same v6 motor for the tundra as the 95-98 T100, extra cab with the early Tundra is essentially the same except for some changes in fabric etc, ive never actually seen an extended cab V6 tundra before...but who knows they might exist.

Yes they did (and still do) make a Tundra V6 Access Cab (2wd only). Not sure how common they are though.
The back seat should be larger than the T100, but whether it is big enough, you will have to judge for yourself.
I didn't think it was big enough when my oldest boys were outgrowing my non-T Toyota pickup (that and I didn't *need* a fullsize truck...).

If I recall correctly, the Tundra rear seats are straight up and down, far less comfortable than the slightly tilted T100 rear seats.

A few early Xcab V6 Tundra trucks were available in 4WD... The Xcab T100 and Tundra are basically the same size in and out.
The '05 and '06 4.0L V6 Xcab Tundra is a very nice truck, but the back seat has no more room than your T100. On the plus side - the 1/2 doors do open for easier access.

I have a 97 T-100 and had a 05 Tundra, both 4wd and both ex-cab. I know you asked about 2wd but thought I might be of a little help with a comparison. The T gets 20mpg with the 3.4 v6 and the Tundra 18 with the v-8. Both using Mobil 1 and I am easy on the gas peddle. Loaded with my pop-up camper they got about the same mileage, about 14. The tundra has a lot more power and reserve when loaded. As far as room in the back seat, the T has a little more because the tundra seats are more plush (thicker) and comfortable but at a price of less room. The backs on both are pretty much straight up. The rear doors on the tundra are a godsend for kids but you still are not going to gain space if that is the true reason for the upgrade. The tundra is a lot smoother and comfortable to drive but I love my T also. I traded the tundra for a Corolla for the mileage and kept the T for work. I do miss driving the tundra!!

BTW, I rode in the back seat of a new Taco Xcab out to the rifle range today and it was tiny and cramped. I had much more seating area in the back of my Xcab T100 and i'm sure the same holds true for the Xcab Tundra. I rode in the passenger seat on the trip home and was very comfortable in the Taco, but it's back seat is worthless.

If I recall correctly, the Tundra rear seats are straight up and down, far less comfortable than the slightly tilted T100 rear seats. You are right the seat back is very verticle, making it quite uncomfortable. It is actually the main reason I bought a double cab. I wouldn't want to ride back there for five minutes even.

I own a 96 T-100 x-tra cab, and an 04 Tundra 4 door, both 2wd. I recently looked at trading in the Tundra for an 06 access cab, wanted to downsize, but after seeing, and using a shoe horn to fit my 16 year old kid in the back of the access cab, I decided to stay with the 4 door. Also, there is more room in the x-tra cab of my T-100 than in the access cab in my opinion, and in my sons opinion.
