Getting the Wheeling Fever
OK Guys! I know, I know! Stupid question!
I've had this 2000 Trooper with automatic Tran, 3.5 V6 since it was new. I've never been able to find the transmission dipstick. I've been through the owners manual several times. Either I'm blind or it's not in there.

WHERE IS IT? Not the manual, the dipstick, Dipstick!

Bob

OK, so there isn't a dipstick! Just a filler hole with a plug in it?

Bob

Yep, that is one of those irritating Isuzu things, you almost have to have the trooper on a lift with it running, pull the upper plug which is about an inch or so higher than the drain plug and off to one side of the pan. it still faces down so if you have to add fluid you have to have a hose with a hook on it. I go to a trany shop near by and let them service mine once a year and then not worry about the mess, and these light duty A/Ts need extra care anyway.

Hey bob just do what I do. Go to homedepot and buy yourself a garder tank sprayer (with a pump to pressurize). The nozzle already has the perfect angle to snake it in. All you have to do is pressurize the tank and then squeeze the trigger. You might still spill a little, but it's better than using a suction pump with all its tubbing. HTH

So, doesn't it kind of P___ you off because we don't have a dipstick?

I've put 165,000 miles on my '91 and 58,000 miles on my 2000, and every time I have to check the oil in the auto trans, it P----- me off!

Maybe I'll drill a hole in the case and put a tube in it. Now I just need to borrow me a dipstick. I sure miss my dipstick!

If my memory does not fail me, the A/T dipstick was a special dealer-installed option on 2000+ Troopers, a part of the big "4x4 Dream Package". That package included selectable lockers on both axles, 4.77 ratios, 33" tires, a turbocharger, a snorkel and some others goodies (like tranny dipstick, top-mounted alternator, 32 gallons gas tank etc).

I kind of like having my wrist watch smelling like tranny fluid.
Of course I like it better when I came back from Montreal and it smelled like dancers of the canadian "ballet". <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.
