One with Goodyear MT/Rs, and the other with Bridgestone REVOs.

As far as getting another set of A/Ts goes û I think you would be genuinely surprised at how much like the REVOs a set of MT/Rs will perform as daily-driversà Both seem to possess very similar handling characteristics on wet or dry pavement û with the REVOs getting the nod in light snowà however, in deeper snow, IÆd much rather have the MT/Rs û and that goes at least 10x for off-road.

Why not take the plunge? --- You could put the money that you were going to spend on a set of occasional-use M/Ts together with your A/T budget, and go get yourself a good set of road-friendly M/Tsà TheyÆll look great; out-perform the A/Ts in almost all situations; and you wonÆt ever have to bother with swapping your tires before a `wheeling trip. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />


Just make sure you get radials û something likeà
MT/Rs (like Sean, me, and many others)
TrXus M/Ts (of which Charles Kimbrough swore by)
Cooper Discoverer STTs (like on Joe's work truck)

Check out the new General Grabber AT2's. They look like a cross between a mud tire and AT. Also, look at Cooper's new Discoverer STT with siping. I had the same dilemna and solved it by buying some almost new Kumho MT's very inexpensively. I still love my REVO's, but they aren't of much use in the mud, as they cake up. When my Revos go, I'll either get another set and keep swapping my Kumhos, or go with a "mild" mud radial tire that has good road manners and is better than an AT on the trail. Again, it depends on what aspect of peformance is most important to you.

I'd give the STT's a big <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Thumbs up. I have the new version on my 03 F-150 work truck that I get to wheel on pretty much a daily basis. I have to drive the gas well roads in my area, most of which haven't seen gravel in years, much less a grader blade.

So they shine offroad, but to my surprise they are quiet and they are wet and snow friendly. I also have a bout a 45 min commute to work everyday, so the highway drive is also nice.

I'd take a serious look at the new coopers.

Joe's right, they're a very good choice too - and the addition of siping makes them even better than the old version of the STT that I used to have on the Rodeo (which wasn't too shabby to begin with).

I have enjoyed my Cooper Discoverer STs. They've lasted me about 50K. I'm actually going to need some new tires soon too so I'm glad you posted. Yes, agreed. The older tire is much more of an off-road only tire. Not much on the street friendly side of things.

Granted they did wear forever but the wet and winter traction wasn't very good.

I've been looking at the STT's and the Pitbull Growler as the upgrade on the RS when the time comes. They recently came out with the growler in 33's.

Aren't all Pitbull tires bias ply? I'd look into that before purchasing if they are going on a DD.

You want an agressive LOOKING AT? If your buying for a mean looking tire, AT's are not what you want. If you want a quiet ride, long life and good general off-road tire then an AT is what you want.
But from what you just stated, wanting an agressive tire, and buying a set of MTs anyway, why not just get a good set of MTs and forget the ATs?

But just to give you some options.

I have owned both Pathfinder ATs and Pirelli Scorpion ATs, both lasted until 40k and never gave me any problems. But off-road the Pirelli was a great tire, snow, rocks, gravel, it was able to handle almost everything (just not mudd, trust me <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />) Both can be bought for about $150-160 a tire.

As for MTs, I can only speak for the Trxus tires. Quiet (comparable to the MT/R but not an AT), great off-road in ANY terrain, and at this point I have about 15k miles and they are still at about 50% tread life. They are very soft, softer than any other, so you must watch the rotations, pressure, and balance closely.

All of these have been on my truck which serves as my DD. All have been good, but I'm happy I stepped up to the Trxus and so will you, which ever you choose.

The Trxus (MUD terrain) certainly is a full mud tire. Not quite as off road capability as some other interco tires, but is a great all around tire. IMO, they are as quiet and ride as well as an all-terrain. Only downfalls would be shorter tire left, softer rubber (easier to get rock rash or rip off lugs), heavier overall tire, and higher price.

I don't think you would reget going with the MT/Rs either, I've heard nothing but good things about them, except for deep mud.

But if you're deadset on all terrains, I always thought Dunlop Rover at's looked like a good pattern, and cheap:

Hope we can convince you to go with a trade off set of mud terrains though, switching out tires for offroading gets old quick.
