when does the lockrite go boom, and describe wet pavement behavior. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

sometimes when it gets bound up and pops. it just does that. nothing to worry about, but you'll be looking in the rear view mirror sure you just left your axle in the road. in wet pavement without traction (or snow/ice), it will act like a welded rear. you will fishtail in corners if you are not careful. just do not drive like a wild man, and you'll be okay.

The Detroit Softlocker is also available for the T100/Tundra diff now. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I still can't figure out what people mean by wet pavement behavior unless it's 'roadway covered in 6" of standing water' behavior. Snow and ice are where the real adventure with one is at imho, way easier to go a$$ over teakettle. The best caution, as has been said, get familiar and don't get stoopid.

I was happy with the NoSlip, same Achilles heel as the Lock-rite, though, in the springs and pins. It locked tight and wasn't very noticeable at all on the street. An Aussie'd be an option too if there's one for Tacomas. I'm not sure if the softlocker is the Detroit or not. Might be, wasn't the EZ the junker they came out with about concurrent with the NoSlip? I remember reading one locker and a truetrac for this diff on their apps page recently. They were both full carrier designs.

auzzie locker for the rear on 8" and 8.5" rear ends are still in development, they are available for the front through...

Is the e-locker of soft-locker a good choice for 75% street, 25% sand/dirt???

AFAIK it is the full detroit, but now they just call it the detroit locker. It also appers from there web site that the tru-trac is avalible for the T100/Tundra rear.

And honestly a TrueTrac would be the friendliest on that 75/25 split...or an ARB. Of the mechanical lockers outlined, I'd vote the full carrier Detroit.

Yes, the Softlocker is the "full" Detroit.

And Toyota doesn't make an 8.5", 8.4", or even 8.25" diff.

The T100/Tundra ring gear is 8". Measure for yourself sometime! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

(Landcruiser is 8.75" though)

I need to post the pic I have of the IFS (7.5"), 4cyl, T100, and D44 (8.5") ring gears next to a tape measure on my Diff Info page...
