Its OK, you're defintely not the only one who thinks the things you posted are the case. I'm sure you heard them from someone else who heard and/or assumed the same things. Marlin Crawler's web page was actually the first place to call the T100 diff an 8.4", and unfortunately that misnomer kinda stuck.

I'm just trying to clear up some of the common misconceptions. That's one reason I put up my page. Now you know, and you can pass along the *correct* info to the next person who asks!

Actually, one of the things that got me looking into Toyota diff info 7 years ago or so was that I wanted to find out if I could put an E-locker in my T. I learned a lot from that research and that's when I started the Diff Info page.

nope. trd tacos get the elocker and are based off the original V6 8" r&p. the non-trd tacos are teh same as the T-100 with 8" r&p and bearing supports.

I dunno firsthand, but this is what I read on the aforementioned diff info page.

Quote
This diff cannot be fitted to an older style 8" axle because it uses a larger diameter mounting bolt pattern and because more space inside the housing necessary to accommodate the large bearing cap. The different bolt pattern also makes it very impractical to swap in an electric locking Toyota diff (the whole mounting flange would have to be re-done using a special jig).

It will probably forever be known as an 8.whatevertf even though manufacturers now list it by model. A lot of parts listings I see omit T100 and just list Tundras, Tacomas and Sequoias.

i was under the impression the tundra had an e-locker option in the TRD

But the Tundra does have a limited slip differential option for any model, not just the TRD.

No experience with the unit or it's fitment into other rear ends.

and it will fit in all T-100 and non-td taco axles.

E-locker gears are the same as the 4cyl/V6 gears. The 3rd member bolt pattern is the same too, except for the few bolts you have to modify where the actuator is (see the 4x4wire e-locker install article).

The T100/Tundra gears are similar in size, but very different in every other way and there would be no way to swap one from to the other.
The 3rd member bolt pattern is different too, which is the main reason you can't swap in an E-locker 3rd. It uses larger studs and the diameter of the circle is slightly larger too, so no bolt holes would line up. You'd have to start completely from scratch.
If you really wanted an E-locker, your best option would be to buy a Diamond Axle housing set up for an E-locker 3rd with T100/Tundra axle width. They do the "starting from scratch" part for you.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
i had thought about the diamond axle as an option also. was actually trying to save a buck or 2. i have also been kicking around the idea of an sas and using one of thos axles for the front set-up. now will the e-locker work in
the front toyota axle (8" of course not the 7.5" ifs).

surlynkid did you get your sas complete yet? how did the shackles out front work for you?
