I had a very productive weekend of research at Uwharrie. I big thanks to JLEMOND for bringing up a stock 3.2L converter and flex plate to compare. I brought my new converter for the 2.8L S-10. The results were very encouraging. The S-10 converter is blue:
They were nearly identical <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
The snout that engages the fluid pump is slightly different, but the bolt pattern is an exact match. The overall width, from foot to snout is almost too close to call.

The converter I got is 2060 rpm stall, and my Helm manual shows 2150 +/-150 rpm stock for the 3.2l SOHC. The difference in engine power should put me back to about stock.
I also picked up my D300 from Tad

I've been trying to find a spare Rodeo D44 pinion flange, and I assumed that the 2nd gen would be the same as the 1st gen. Bigpappax2 brought me a flange from his spare 2nd gen rear, but it was just too big. We had his 3rd member housing from the failed ARB install, so he and Tad pulled the pinion flange to check it out.

The one on the output is the 10-bolt, beside it is the 2nd gen D44.
The 10-bolt must be the same as the 1st gen D44, because my spare rear driveshaft flange matches up exactly, while the 2nd gen is a completely different bolt pattern.
I'm really wanting to get started now that I have all the big parts. I want to get the 4L30E out and figure a few things out before I order an adapter. I've got a local obstacle course event in a couple of weeks, and I'm going to start tearing it down right after that.
