OK, the only part I decided to throw at the situation was a new fuel filter, because I messed up the one that was on there testing above.

This was what I did this weekend, and I think I ended worse then when I started...

- Replaced the fuel filter and tested the pump with it off, pump going strong, and it did not appear to have water or anything out of the ordinary in the fuel...
- Checked for presure at the fuel rails, good pressure...
- Verified Spark at the plugs, had spark but it looked a little weak, but thought it might be good enough...
- Took almost every sensor and cleaned and made sure it was working or at least in spec. The only thing not quite in spec was the TPS, I could not get the throttle switch between pins 1 & 2 to actually read 0 ohms closed, but it does go open then the throttle is open. So it will probably need to be replaced...
- Tested fuel and spark again, because I couldn't figure out why when I even jumped the throttle switch to read 0 ohms closed noting started. This time fuel was still good but there was No Spark showing at all not ever at the coil...
- Tested the coil and wires, wires were goood but the coil was below spec, primary and secondary read .7 and secondary read 11.76 ohms. According to my manual the secondary should be higher even though before FrankR told me between 10.3k-13.9k ohms in this thread.
- Checked ECU codes, but remeber this was after trying different things with the sensors out or being played with as stated above. I got:
[*]12 - Air-Flow Sensor - Probably from trying to start it with the MAF disconnected...
[*]13 - Intake Air Temperature Sensor - Probably from trying to start it with the MAF disconnected...
[*]14 - Throttle position sensor - Probably from trying to start it with the TPS disconnected or while fiddling with it...
[*]23 - Top Dead Center (TDC) Sensor - Probably from trying to start it while wigiling the plug for this sensor...
[*]25 - Barometric Pressure Sensor - Probably from trying to start it with the MAF disconnected...
[*]41 - Injector - Probably from trying to start it with one of the injectors disconected so I could get a reading to see if the injectors were being told to open from the ECU...
[*]42 - Fuel Pump - Probably from trying to start it with the Fuel Filter disconnected to verify the pump was working...

The reason I am making excuses for those faults is because after I cleared the memory and tried starting it many times after that no codes showed...

So all said at the end of the day I no longer have spark for some reason, and no codes to show for it. What could be wrong with this damn thing???

You might want to pull the ECU out, open it up and see if anything is fried. It's about a 15 minute job and it won't cost anything to look. I'm going to guess it's either a bad ECU or the power transistor next to the coil is bad.

I'd agree to at least peek inside the ECU. Then I'd try a replacement distributor (junkyard, ebay or get one from someone here - I have one if you need it). If you haven't replaced the coil assembly (including the power transistor) I'd try a complete swap (again from the junkyard, etc).

It's sounding like ECU/TDC sensor/coil/power transistor, but the TPS should be within spec also.

My money is on the capacitors in the ecu.

Sorry to dig this post back up...

Frank,

I have put this on the back burner for a while and am just getting back into troubleshooting it again. Too many projects and too little time, ya know. BTW cool supercharger project it looks like you have been busy since the last time I was on here...

Anyway I am picking up the new coil assem. with power transister from the stealership tomorrow, and am going to try that, if it doesn't work is your offer of letting me try one of your extra dizzy's still available?

Also I was looking over my Mother-in-law's service documentation (it's technically her's) on the truck and the ECU is only a few years old and I opened it up and there is no smell or anything that looks leaking or blown. Any other thoughts?

Sure - just let me know and I'll send it to you. I'm not sure it's good, but it came from a '90 or '91 - has the wire harness plug in front instead of underneath like the '89.

I'd be damned...

I installed the new coil assem. and after a couple cranks she fired right up, she still has the high idle in P and N but she seems to be running good considereing she hasn't been started in well over a year...

I am going to change the oil and continue breaking the motor in from it's new rebuild, 1.5 years ago...

Frank, this make it another I owe you...

Great! Sometimes the simple things can be really aggravating to find. Glad it's running.
