Well it certainly wasn't a pat on the back.

I understand your an ex-military brat and you like (trained) to do things by the book, thats fine and expected when your military buddies lives are @ stake, then I agree.

But in the automotive world, Engineers write these repair manuals based on their developments.

Engineer's are far from perfect, if they were, then we wouldn't have the need for warranty claim, product recalls, or replacement parts for that matter.

The fact is an Engineer is always learning and always refining and developing, they make design mistake, and then improve on those mistakes, never ending as long as mankind walks this earth.

The only use a shop manual is to me are the torque specifications for fasteners, tune specs and mechanical tolerances, special notes that may pertain to incompatibilities, the rest is just recommended procedures.

As was pointed out to you BY SOMEONE ELSE, that was from the FSM, and was not a flame. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

I am not a military BRAT, I was a military MEMBER. Yes, there is a difference.

I am also familiar with 'best practice'-- I'm in the process of building a cabin right now. Seismic zone 3, wind rating of 60mph, uneven snow loading, permafrost, ad nausem.

Next time I quote the FSM, I'll lift my little finger; maybe that'll help.

While waiting for the weather to clear to effect repair I decided to stop by T-dealer and get a price quote on oil pump o-ring. Can you believe $11? Fortunately, I have a spare from my rebuild kit ready to go.

This time I'll be taking the pump off to have a look just t/b everything is in order.

Not to jump in and piss people off, but as a Toyota tech, neither I or anyone at the dealer would ever put any silicone (FIPG) on the Oil Pump O-ring..and believe me I love the stuff, but O-rings dont need it...gaskets yes. The only thing FIPG on the o-ring is going to do is make it a pain in the ass to replace it because you have to clean it up. Maybe an aftermarket O-ring doesnt seal as good but Ive never had any problems with the factory part.

Hey Skter505, no problem dude you won't piss anyone off here on this board.

Your opinion is more than welcome here, I for one have used RTV (small quantity) along with the Oring with very good results, also as you being a yoda tech, you know that RTV comes off very easily, plus as the Oring gets compressed it displaces most of the RTV off to the inner and outer edges of the groove.

Just a small quantity, not globs that end up squeezing out internally into the oil pump.

Anyway what works for one, may not for another.

Oh and welcome to the board <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
