Hmmmm, I built motor using Loctite 242 on just about every bolt but did not use RTV on the bolt in question. FSM clearly identifies bolt to which you refer as having a coat of sealant in illustration. I'm fairly certain I missed this when I assembled engine.

By Joe! my bet is now on Kewlynx as identifing source of my problem... namely, pilot error! Ole Buck should pay closer attention!!!!

You do NOT use RTV in that area.

Only the bolt just to the right of the relief valve gets RTV on the threads when it's installed. And I've had them leak from there when I've forgotten that. Check the FSM.

>>>*I hereby assign one bonus brownie point, good one. *Didn't think of that myself, it's kinda automatic when we set a pump on.

And yep, we use no RTV on that O-ring. It could work if one was very careful though. Good old chassis grease does the job for us....*EB

Jesus Christ, Did I just get a spanking or what .

Claim yourself down, I understand if you use too much you run the risk of the ooze out getting into the main oil gallery after it sets up.

That's why I said " don't over use the RTV" and just in the Oring groove.

This is what I did when I did my cam/chain replacement. I had little if any ooze out, barely perceptible and it's been bone dry ever since.

If your gonna flame someone, have a good reason too!

mistake, there's no stink'n mistake. the Oring seal hardens over time anyway and can seep very slightly.

The RTV just adds extra sealing protection, no harm comes from it if it's not used excessive.

There's a picture over @ DOA Racing's site, which clearly depicts the over application of the RTV in and around the oil pump area.

>>>*Just two cases that I know of that are similar. One was the O-ring got slightly pinched at install and finally allowed a leak, the other turned out to be a tiny pin hole in the timing cover itself, a simple flaw in the casting when they poured the metal....*EB

Just curious...Is there a warranty on those timing covers? The one I got from ya a year ago or so has a tiny pinhole leak on the bottom left of the where the oil pump is located. Nothing serious, just enough to be annoying and drip..drip..drip on my concrete. I tried to RTV the hole up. I cleaned it real well, let the sealant dry a couple days, and started her up, only to watch my RTV bubble from the oil pressure within minutes. It was kinda cool. I've been thinking of taking a punch to the hole to try and seal it up, but haven't had time.
