Exterior maintenance #703896 03/07/06 09:11 PM

I'll probably end up keeping my 98 till the wheels fall off so I'd like to keep it looking fairly good. The paint is black and I have been waxing it semi-regularly with synthetic wax. However, the plastic parts are turning grey and the typical treatments only restore the black color for a few days. Also, the rubber seals around the windows are showing some oxidation.

What are the best treatments for the exterior plastic and rubber parts?

Thanks

I used this dye on an 1995 Saab 900 and it was absolutely amazing - made the car look 10 years younger. Didn't use it on window rubber though, just black bumpers and such.

Mother's make a product called 'Back to Black' which works good on rubber trim. Dye is awesome, like John said.

I've used "Back to Black" on my bumpers and fender flares jillions of times, and it does work great.....but only for about 4 days. Sometimes I get lazy now and use ArmorAll instead, it lasts a bit longer. One thing I've used before is a spray paint made just for bumpers. They sell it at most auto stores and the enamel is flexible, so if you use it on anything rubber or plastic, it won't crack and chip off like regular paint would. I haven't tried it on the Yota, but I had an 86 BMW 735i before that I used it on. I cleaned and sanded the nastyness off the bumpers, then gave it two coats. That stuff was AMAZING. It made the trim look like NEW and lasted the next 2 years until I sold the car; no problems with chipping or fading. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
