does anyone use this companies motor oil? They have an unusual marketing method. They recomend one oil change per year, or 25,000 change interval.

Amsoil is a great oil for diesel's and should be for gassers as well. A friend of mine has is just over 20k on his last oil change.

Now the best way to know how your engine/oil is doing is to get a sample every 3-5k and send it to Blackstone Labs. Blackstone
They can tell you how it looks and what it contains. It's pretty cheap as well.

I checked out their site. This sounds like a worthwhile test, especially if you're considering keeping a high mileage Zu for a lot longer and putting money into modifications. I wonder how the test results would be affected for those of us adding a qt. of oil every 1,000 miles or so.

Has anyone else heard of this lab and how accurate an indicator they are of potential problems?

I didnt vote because I havent used their motor oil, but I have their manual trans oil in my rodeo right now. This is the first time I've used their product. I figured it was synthetic, blended for use in trannys, and the propper weight so might as well give it a try. I dont like using motor oil in areas where there are alot of gears. Even though it may be perfectly fine I feel that oil designed for that purpose is a better choice. I just wish you could buy it in stores instead of having to order it.

I voted for synthetic because the poll didn't specify brand, but I don't use Amsoil, I use Mobil One. Been using it for nigh unto 20 years now with excellent results. FWIW I run it 10K with a filter change at 5K.

Interesting way to do it. I didn't vote because I can't.
1. 93 Amigo: Cheapest dino oil I can get from Wal-Mart.
2. 2004 Rodeo: Mobile 1, 5k changes with Puralator pureOne filter.

Just curious, how much are people paying for Amsoil?

Something you can do is goto this site. The Diesel Stop

Search for both Amsoil and Blackstone Labs. You will find a ton of reading material about both subjects.

Body Damage is Cool
I'm all about the cheapest oil, purolator pureone filters, and 3-5k oil change. I stripped down my 3.1 engine and inspected all bearings and everything on that engine looked geat and I ran the snot out of it from 87K to 175K. I was not easy on that engine.
