Today I accepted a position with Red Hat as a telephony engineer, and I'll be moving to Raleigh, NC on 4/14 or so. Susana and Rex are going to stay behind for a couple of weeks to finish up piddly work on the house.

Naturally I am super-excited, great company and great job and I hear it's a nice area! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Not quite like Harry's recent re-lo, but an all-round great move nonetheless.

Congrats Joe that sounds like a great move, career-wise and location-wise. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> I haven't spent much time in that area but have good friends from there and they are always raving about the area and all that it has to offer.

Congrats on the new job Joe! I've heard good things about Red Hat. Good to hear they're going to have a good guy working for them. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Raleigh is a fairly nice place. Personally, I think that Greensboro is a prettier city, but it's not bad in either case, particularly compared to Cleveland. I know you're dreading the thought of not having much, if any, snow to push around next winter. If there's any info I can pass on, let me know, although I'm sure Dan's got you scoped out pretty well already.

Contrats again <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> and looking forward to getting together with Susanna and you..

As I mentioned in my response to your email, that I think you are making a wise decision to rent for a while and take the time to check out the entire area to decide where you want to be long term.. There's a huge range of choices from dense suburbia, to still having the possibility to live out in the boonies where the deer are your nearest neighbors..

Looking forward to having you in the area....

Good for you! If I had to be STUCK back East again, my choices are NC or TN.

You'll love Raleigh -- much better than Cleveland in so many ways, although that isn't saying much! Rex will love the milder climate, too!

Looks like we may have to drive a bit further to meet in the middle over the holidays! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

Many congratulations, Joe -- I hope the excitement of a new destination and step up the career ladder carries you through the frustration of packing and moving. Hopefully Red Hat is footing the bill for a moving van and staff.

When will you be painting the confederate flag on the roof of your Tacoma? Have you started practicing your new accent, or containing your laughter when somebody drops in serious conversation the phrase: "The War of Northern Agression?" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

My wife is from California and we moved back to NC many years ago..

Bit of an adjustment for her at first, but now she's the one with the shotgun that asks strangers to "state yur bizness" that wander down our private road.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> jest kiddin' she don't get the shotgun out 'cept for special circumstances..

We have a 'special area for all the Yankees that move in... the city is Cary, NC.. local joke Cary stands for "Containment Area for Rolocated Yankees"

Heck we even got our own comic strip.. Kudzu comic writer Doug Marlette lives just up the road from me in "Bypass".. I mean Hillsborough..

The most popular name for creeks in NC.. "Still Creek" from the umm "distilleries" that use to operate on them..

Heck we even got our own local who did good designing duds to make sure we're all spiffed up... Use to buy my fancy $600.00 suits from Maurice years ago when dressin' for work was the thing..

Some folks who lived in Chapel Hill like to wander about but they always seem to come back.. Used to be neat seeing Charles Kuralt's "On the Road" motor home parked in the church parking lot when he come visit he brother Maurice who ran a local book store here.. He came back for the last time, and is buried here in a cemetary next to the UNC campus..

Posted this a long time ago, but a little bit of true history about my uncle Berl Eddleman I wrote Ken Willis about his article and learned that a fair amount of detail in this writup came from none other than Junior Johnson.. Things have changed a bit since then..

Have a sister in law in California that asked us one time if we had shopping malls back here... I said heck yes... we even got some paved roads to some of them.. She don't get out much..

Who knows you might run into Barney Fife over in Mayberry <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />
