I am so tired of my rodeo, I have had it for 47k miles of its life and have replaced all the belts three times, alt twice, clutch one, head gasket and starter.... Now here is my latest problem...

My gf has been driving it and called me on her way to work to say the volt meter was way low. I told her I would come take a look at it, and it seemed at first glance that she shredded a alt belt, not a big deal, but still was snowing outside and I wasnt real excited about it. Well what I came to find out when I was replacing the belts is that the "collar" on the crankshaft that the belts wrap around has movement in it. The whole piece doesnt move, but the actual "collar" can be moved towards the engine and out towards the radiator probably 1/2 inch either way.... has anyone seen this, what causes it and is it an easy fix??? How is it fixed???

Like I said, im about tired of looking at the 3.2 (its a 93 v6 4wd rodeo btw) but I love the rodeo, any help??

THANKS!
Nate

The description is a little confusing. Are you saying that the pulley
rocks at an angle in and out like it's broken at the base or that the whole assembly slides straight in and out on the end of the crank shaft?

It's not likely that the bolt that holds the pulley to the end of the shaft has come loose but it's worth checking. Reads like something is loose.
Certainly explains why you're chewing through belts. I don't know if there are thrust bearings in that engine but 1/2" of play sounds excessive for that scenario.

Body Damage is Cool
First you say you hate it. Then you say you love it. So which is it? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Don't know these trucks, but from what I can make of it, sounds like you just need to tighten the bolts up that hold the crank pulley on.

Dan was right, it was my harmonic balancer, I bought a used one at a junk yard today for 70 bucks (parts store wanted over 300) and got it running again, it come off a honda pport and the power steering belt I have is too big, diff size pulley, so I still have to get a new p steering belt, but its running...

Sorry for the confusing desc. I was pretty mad :p Getting towed home in the snow/rain with my gf driving the truck and me trying to see out of the rodeo was a pain, and the batt was so dead the hazards didnt work, wipers didnt work and headlights were just bright enough for me to see here tailgate smile
