Body Damage is Cool
Just adjusted the valves on a friend's 89 2WD carbie that has pretty clearly seen little to no maintenance over it's lifespan (278k), and all the valves but one were WAY too tight. Is this normal? #2 exhaust was just tight enough so that the cyl had low compression and wouldn't fire at idle.

Yes this is normal and is why they are supposed to be adjusted periodically.

common sense would say that they'd loosen as the adjusters wear, at least to me <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The wear is on the valve seat as the valve sinks deeper into the head thus closing the lash gap.

after my street rv head got broken in about 2k later i adjusted the valves for the third time. a lot of them were wayyy too tight, and some were really loose i was a little confused about that. now it sounds like they are loose again, ugh. ive been putting off adjusting my valves for a couple weeks.
