Hi. I was having the same problem that you're talking about and I couldnt figure out what was wrong with it so I took it to Mitsu and even they couldnt dial it in right. Since it was all aftermarket, they were reluctant to look at it. They told me that it was probably worn jets and left it at that. So needless to say, I was forced to use the clutch trick method everytime. However, since blowing my head gasket and fixing all that, I have found that by fiddling with the distributor (timing?) I have almost got it to stop completely. Still have it in humid or really cold weather, but its that often that it happens. It doesnt smell like its running rich and it idles at around 600-750 when cold. Once its warmed up, it idles fine at around 750-800 rpm. I have also blocked the EGR and have had no issues with idle or fuel consumption. Hope this helps.
