Hey guys Im looking to put a stereo and some speakers in my CJ. I like the way the sound wedges fit between the roll bar and wheel wells. I havent seen or heard any of the products. What do yall recommend for front and rear speakers? What about stereo mounting. I saw the consoles that hide and lock up the head unit but they are far from cheap. What about the pods that fit behind the shifter? Any input would be great, sound, install, security, location.
Thanks

I don't have a CJ but the considerations are the same. Do wheel it? Having the pod in front of the shifter is good for a Jeep that will never get water in the floorboards. I wheel mine but my YJ has a spot for a head unit in the dash. The nice thing about the locking consoles is the head unit is out of sight out of mind for theives. Also the locking center console units are semi water proof, so if you get caught w/ the top down in a sudden rainstorm, you don't have to buy all new. I also have a sound bar from a TJ in mine, it is just spun around to the hoop to windshield bars. (I have the fastback bars like you) You may also consider a weather resistant speaker for those pods too. There are also overhead bars that run from the windshield to the rear hoop that can contain a single DIN radio spot. (I don't care for those, I don't get an even sunburn with stuff over my head)

i've got a bazooka amplified bass tube in addition to an overhead soundbar. sounds great, doesn't fill the jeep up too much and install is a snap. i have a cheap stereo and jack a portable mp3 into it. speakers make the biggest difference in sound quality. if nobody realizes they want it they won't try to steal it!

I have a 75 CJ and I have the H.U. in the dash, all you need is a decent deck with detachable face. If the face is gone the deck is useless.
As for speakers, I have a pair of Kenwood 6x9's on the wheel wells in the back (got the speakerless boxes at walmart for like $15 or $20 each) For the front I got a set of Infinity Kappa's. For the dome tweeters I got a hole saw and permanently mounted them in the dash, and for the 5.5's I got the centra-pod that goes on the floor in front of the shifter.
Let me tell you it is loud, clear and sounds really good. Bass is a little lacking, so now I am trying to figure out where to mount the 10" DB driver. (that will probably go under the driver seat in a custom made box.
I never get into mud. I rarely get into water that deep, if you do, keep in mind what wyleone said about the centra-pod.
Good Luck!
