Hey John!

There are not any trails in the BBNP in the sense there are trails at Moab. All the trails are old gravel and rock roads, most of them see little use. The brush is growing into the roads in many places and will scratch your truck's paint, if that matters! They don't allow "off-roading" as they are very protective of the environment. However, the roads do lead off into some very remote and interesting places.

The Big Bend Ranch State Park has the same kind of thing, just a lot more backcountry miles in thick brush and longhorn cattle lying in the roads. There are several other 4wd type roads outside the parks that lead into remote country on private land, but you have to be pretty carefull down in there 'cause of the illegal immigration problem and drug runners. Some places are just flat not safe to be!

Best go with someone from there or check with the county sheriffs in Alpine and Marfa. They will tell you where not to go! Believe them.
