Your non-turbo motor requires non-turbo injectors and a non-turbo ECU and AFM. If he reused these parts from the turbo motor, he made a big mistake.

My advice would be to get the right 22RE injectors (for a pre 88.5 22RE), and a pre-88.5 ECU and AFM. You need the pre-88.5 parts to match the stock wiring harness; in 1989, Toyota changed to saturated injectors, and those have ovalized connectors. The stock pre-88.5 injectors are peak and hold and have square connectors. Install those and fresh plugs and everything should be in agreement.

Reliability isn't a problem with the turbo motor. But like I said, they can get pricey real quick. You should be able to sell the turbo ECM, AFM, injectors, turbo, manifold pretty easily to offset the cost of finding the correct ECM, AFM and injectors.

I do believe that the 22RTE injector and ECU will over fuel the 22RE engine!! You can tell the turbo injectors from the NA injectors by the color.. the turbo injectors are pinkish/orange and the NA injectors are grey.. The UCE is also easly to tell apart and is located in the passenger kick panel it will clearly state if itÆs a 22RTE or a 22RE ECU.. IÆm almost certain that the wiring harness are identical except for the boost sensor on the turbo harnessàbut the turbo harness should work fine on the NA motor.. As for the MAF sensor I have no idea how to tell them apart they might have a sticker donno!?!?!

time to go junk yardin!!

it's not really that bad to change out the injestors, but you will need a new plenuim gasket.. I'd also replace both the upper and lower O-rings on each injector as well as the little screen on the injectors.. If you get them from a junk yard clean them real good with brake cleaner.. not carb cleaner as the carb cleaner will make the plastic parts brittle..

Read this post Label everything... wires, hoses, tubing, sensors... take pictures if possible... never think that "I'll remember where everything went when I'm done".

Also, use caution when removing the metal clips on your injector and TPS connections (if you have them), I ruined mine on my first 22RE rebuild.

This is an excellent point -- these plastic/bakelite/whatever casings that the metal clips reside in become brittle with age and break easily, also the clips can bend. So use something like a small, fine bladed screwdriver a pry these off very gently. Be careful and take your time.

Also, a trick for reinstalling the injector o-rings is to use a little (little!) Vaseline as lube, this keeps the o-rings from getting twisted and damaged/torn.

OK-
so now i have ecu, afm, injectors w/ new o rings, new upper fuel intake piece because the turbo one was missing a port that connects to the top of the valve cover, my new intake was very dirty inside w/black goop and carb cleaner didnt make a dent. how should i clean the goop outta there?
also the toyota guys helping me locally think i should buy a new wiring harness non turbo, because it has alot of different connectors that we wont need. they also thing my timing may be a tooth off on the distributor because they say the cap looks off a little. i pulled off the oil fill and alot of air blowing out, isnt this blowby or is it because of how its running, or is it just normal because the engine is supposed to have 90k on it...
so i pulled some wierd tubing and a cannister by radiator on the drivers side and sensors that the local guys here told me i dont need. then i put the new o rings on the injectors. i took the throttle body and linkage from the turbo manifold because it was way cleaner and so the throttle cable would match up(hope this is ok)the turbo throttlebody had two small vaccum tubes and the efi throttlebody has three...
as soon as i get the intake cleaned i will install it all
then maybe go for the wiring harness or just see if it works like this.. what do you pros think let me know!!!!
thx guys...
