Need a Spot
I just got my 3.2L back into my 97 Rodeo after pulling it and having it overhauled. When I hit the key it wouldn't start. Using my Haynes manual I'm suspecting a crankshaft position sensor or ignition control module.

I haven't tested fuel injectors but when I pull a plug to check it for spark it is "wet" with fuel. Grounding the plug and cranking engine I can see no spark.

I have also checked the wire from coil pack to ICM with a test light when cranking and get no light. I have verified 5v at crank sensor and at cam sensor. I have battery voltage at the ICM. I have also checked the ground on the ICM and the coil pack, both are OK. At this point my Haynes manual pulls the old "take it to dealer" to have the CkPS and ICM tested. Is there a way to test the Ckps and/or ICM?

I'm leaning towards the Ckps since the rebuilder replaced the engine block (with a used block) and the Rodeo would start with the old engine. I don't know if he swapped the sensor from my engine or used the donor's.Thanks for any help!!

Body Damage is Cool
DID YOUR REBUILDER REPLACE YOUR ENG WITH AT LEAST A 96 OR 97 ENG BLOCK, IF NOT IT WILL NEVER START , 92-95 V6,S USED A DIFF, CRANKSHAFT AND ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE WITH THE 96-97 ENG , THE EARLY ENG HAVE A 7 TOOTH CRANK ANGLE TONE RING GROUND INTO THE CRANKSHAFT ITSELF THAT WILL LINE UP WITH THE CRANK ANGLE SENSOR, THE 96-97 ENGS USE A 57 TOOTH TONE RING, THIS IS GOING TO BE TOUGH TO SEE , BUT YOU MAY BE ABLE TO PULL THE CRANK ANGLE SENSOR OUT AND WITH A BRIGHT LITE SHINE IN THE HOLE AND SLOWLY TURN THE CRANKSHAFT, IF YOU SEE A NOTCH EVERY 60 DEGREES OR ABOUT 3 INCHS APART , THIS IS YOUR PROB, IF THERE ARE A BUNCH OF NOTCHES CLOSE TOGETHER MAYBE 1/8 INCH APART YOU HAVE THE CORRECT CRANK SHAFT , THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROB, WITH REBUILDERS ,THE ENG WILL NOT EVEN TRY TO FIRE . ON THE EARLY CRANKS THERE ARE 2 NOTCHES THAT ARE CLOSE TOGETHER,THE FIRST NOTCH TO COME BY THE SENSOR IS THE REFERENCE NOTCH TO TELL THE ECM THE FIRING SEQUENCE IS READY AND THE NEXT NOTCH ABOUT 1/8 INAWAY IS FOR FIRING THE LEAD CYL WHICH IN THIS CASE IS NO 2 FRT LEFT THRU THE FIRING ORDER , THE 57 TOOTH CRANK STARTS THE IGN TIMING PRETTY MUCH THE SAME HOWEVER IT ALLSO HAS TO HAVE THE OTHER NOTCHES TO FIRE THE INJ AS THIS IS NOW A SEQUENTIAL INJ ENG ANOTHER NAME OBD11 JERRY

Ouch!!! No 57 tooth tone ring. This is more practice at R&R engine than I needed.

Thanks!
