Lookin for help here.

I have a '91 Toyota 4x4 PU. I had one of the right front brake caliper pistons sieze up, and I now need to replace the caliper and rotor. I have the front end disassembled to this point:

Wheel and caliper is removed.

Front locking hub is removed (cone washers were a booger!).

I'm at the point of removing the hub from the axle, and I want to grease the wheel bearings while I'm in there. I'm now looking at what appears to be about a 54mm nut, with some sort of clip or locking mechanism behind it that is keeping it from rotating. How do I get this nut removed?

Another question. This truck has almost 200,000 miles on it. I notice that the front axle stub (the splined part that extends through the hub and engages the Aisin locker, has about a 1/16" degree of up and down and side to side play in it with the locker removed. Is this normal? Is there a bushing or bearing that needs to be replaced? I didn't notice any play when the Aisin locker was still bolted on.

That play in the outer stub shaft is normal.

Marlin sells the socket you're lookin for......or you could just use a hammer and a chisel to get it off.....

54mm or 2-1/8" socket, with a 1/2" to 3/4" drive adapter. Joe gave you the link. The CV axle end just kind of floats thru the hub; it's fine.

If the rotor is coming off, then you'll want to pack the spindle assembly bearings while it's apart.

Have fun; do ONE SIDE at a time.

Yeah, I used the hammer/punch technique myself. Worked fine since the nuts aren't all that tight. Saved me the trip to sears and the $20 that socket prolly costs.....

On that locking washer, just need to bend the tabs straight and viola, you can loosen the nuts.

OK, thanks guys. I actually found the web site referenced above, and pretty much have it all apart now.

I'm trying to get the rotor off of the hub, now. With the locked-up caliper piston, it got pretty hot. It's also pretty rusty. I'v it all on my bench now, and am soaking the hub/rotor assembly in penetrating oil now, hoping to break 'er loose.

New parts are on order.

Hope to have her back together next weekend.

BTW, I was able to get the wheel bearing nuts loose with just a channel-lock.

I think I'm going to buy the proper-size socket today. I find that, once you buy that special tool you need, you will never have to perform that job again.
