Take the old one off and put the new one on...... ok, it's not quite that simple:
1) Buy about 6 axle clips (in case you warp one or two and for spares) and 2 drive axle shim sets from the dealer before you begin 2) unscrew the auto hub cover 3) remove the snap ring and any shims 4) remove the allen head bolts for the hub (8mm? allen hex) 5) pull the hub 6) clean the hub flange with solvent 7) put a glob of grease in the hub recess and mount the new hub - SuperWinch hubs have a gasket and require no sealant, but don't get grease on the flange surface... a smear of Hylomar or Permatex #2 sealant is good, but probably not necessary 8) install the snap ring 9) check axial play by rotating the drive axle fore/aft to resistance, settling on the mid-point (maximum end play).... pull/push the axle in/out to find end play (you can use a cheap dial caliper for measurement)... you want .008-.020" end play.... if you have too much, use the shim set from the dealer, remove the snap ring, install the correct shim to take up the needed amount of play and reinstall the snap ring - re-check axial play. 10) add another small glob of grease before mounting the hub cover
The best way I've found to remove the axle clip is with an ice pick pushed into the spline groove near one end of the clip - it will act as a pry to get the clip over the edge where you can remove it. To re-install the clip takes a little practice, but two large flat-blade screwdrivers can be used effectively if you don't have the correct pair of snap ring pliers - and it's easier if you have plenty of light and are working at eye level.
It's late and the brandy is working really well on my ribs, so if I missed anything, somebody can correct me. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif" alt="" />
